5 in a hotel room in France - possible?

I was reading a thread where the consensus was that everyone seemed to think it's easy to sneak a 3rd child into a hotel room eg premier inn. But at the end of the thread they said it wouldn't work in France.
Does anyone have experience / advice of this?

I'm thinking a room for 4 with youngest in the bed with us, in a soul-less chain.

Have you done it successfully? or is it really not possible? youngest is 4, oldest 9.

Thanks!

We have had 5 in a room legitimately in France but I booked a family room in a smallish hotel in nuit-st-georges. We booked through booking.com. It was a lovely hotel and not much more expensive than booking 2 rooms in a crappy motorway chain but it was winter so maybe than normal. The room had one big kingsize, a double sofa bed and they brought in an extra single bed for the youngest.

Some hotels are restricted by their insurance policy to only accept a certain number of people in the room. You probably should ask while booking as the hotels are very reluctant to provide a room for people not insured in case of an accident. Still, you can find some legitimate solutions with large family rooms or maybe apartments.
Good luck and enjoy your stay in France

thanks for replies!

seems people only do that in England then!!

oh well, on our budget - 2 horrible formule 1's it is then!! unless anyone knows a hidden gem near Troyes, Dijon, Beaune or over the other side maybe Bourges?

We haven't firmly decided our route yet - I'm assuming for heading south in direction of Avignon it's best to go via Dijon? Or is there another clever route (we'll be driving on Sat in August - I know, I know!!)

We've done Avignon a couple of times in the car, and went via Chartres and Bordeaux one time, but that was more because we were interested in doing a different route. The Dijon/Macon route is probably the most straightforward.
We found the Ibis hotels were quite good for larger rooms. In fact, we got two adjoining rooms a couple of times - My parents in one room, and me, DP & DD in the other. I think they were sold as family rooms/suites, which were one room with double bed, and one with a double/another single. Suited us perfectly, and meant we could put DD to bed, in one room, and sit through in the other room (with the door open) watching TV/chatting, without waking her either. Worth a shot? They're a wee bit more than a Campanile, but much more roomy, we find.
