Ryanair flight in September- 7.49 each way for me and £20 each way for my 1 year old! Really? Anyone know how to get round this? That's all really!

I havn't found a way yet... It's a pretty good deal for flights though isn't it?

MrsS1980 · 12/07/2012 21:57

Oh an amAzing deal and I would have been happy to pay 20 each way for me but just feel it is taking the piss somewhat!

And he'll be on your lap, not even taking a seat! No helpful ideas I'm sorry. Enjoy your trip!

I see on their booking conditions that infants are £20 each way - that's for anywhere then? It seems to be a standard charge so not negotiable.

You can see why they do it though. A BA flight to from Heathrow for an infant is £1 and £33 in taxes so £34 (with free baggage). Thought Heathrow has the highest tax (could be wrong) so they are just making their profits were they can.

nothingoldcanstay · 12/07/2012 22:14

"where" they can, sorry.

It is normal practice for Ryanair I gather to charge the most for infants who are not even taking a seat. Equally things like golf bags and skis cost more to transport than their owners.

rachyconks · 13/07/2012 08:38

Check if car seats are allowed on board and book an extra seat for the infant. Most airlines will allow this (have been looking for myself recently).

In their T & C's Ryanair will not let you book an extra seat for an infant - even if you could it might not work out cheaper anyway as you would then be liable for departure taxes in both locations.

Ryan Air seats are titchy too (and I'm 5'2!). Plus, they allow practically no hand luggage - one matchbox sized bag...even when it's you and DC travelling! They DO allow a pram for free though, though I advise having a sling as well for all the walking around after the pram is checked in. I actually hate Ryan Air and refuse to travel with them after one too many shitty cost cutting crap service things last time I travelled. I only pay a little bit more to go on Easy Jet.

I'm sure you know, but in case not, babies need passports too (!). I was nearly caught out with this one.
