Help me pursuade snobbish DS to do an all inclusive

Finally we have some cash to do a sunshine holiday.

I would like to do 14 nights all inclusive in a big hotel in Fuerteventura, am bog tired and sick of cooking and cleaning and want some time off!

We have two active sons aged 5 & 10 who need stuff to do everyday.

DH wants to go to Port Grimau in the South of France to a friends apartment, where mainly I/we will have to cook and clean and shop and ensure the children don't break/ruin anything. No pool, SoF is expensive and chic and I won't feel comfortable.

I want to relax and read, have some fun in the sea and pool and just chill. DH is such a snob, he thinks it will be like Benidorm, tats and chavs. But it won't!!

Please help me persuade him!

Find somewhere in Gran Canaria instead, bit of culture as wll as 'resorts', that might convince him Grin

ENormaSnob · 12/07/2012 14:55

Depends where you go.

Menorca was good for chav free holidaying Wink

TobyLerone · 12/07/2012 14:59

We went all-inclusive to Cyprus in the Easter holidays and not a chav in sight!

It was so incredibly relaxing and it's easy enough to keep yourselves to yourselves if you want to.

Defo do all inclusive. Each summer I take my 2 DDs for five weeks to my Mums house in Spain. Tis lovely, but I dream of a two week holiday with no entertaining the kids and some one else to ask 'what's for dinner????' Sounds lovely 'five weeks in Spain, lucky you!!!'. but actually NOT!!! still means washing to do, meals to prepare and kids wanting to know what they are going to do today.
Actually am not looking forward to it. Would any one like to take their DC to spend a month at their Mums houses, their rules????
Hijack over Grin
Think I may have to start another thread moaning about my impending 'holiday'.
I'm just an ungrateful B*h aren't I??!!??

mirry2 · 12/07/2012 15:10

Do it. You won't regret it. I always thought they would be chavvy until I tried on last year. I'll always do all inclusive now.

Beatrixpotty · 15/07/2012 10:00

Have you considered half-board as a compromise?Have just done that in Menorca with 2DCs and was fab, stayed in Barcelo Pueblo Menorca which was v high quality, also do fullboard but personally I like popping out to the shops or beach for icecreams and drinks during the day. We've also done 1/2 board in Fuerteventura at Les Marineras and in Lanzarote.Which resort were you looking at in fventura?I totally agree with you about needing a break from the cooking & cleaning, for me that is what makes it feel like a holiday. Also,my kids are so young that eating out in a restaurant is not fun so hotel buffets where they can run off & play work best for everyone.Until we had kids,no way would DH have ever even done 1/2 board, but after persuading him to try it once he can see it works. There may be a cost argument for you if you have 2 boys that eat a lot,you could try that but I think try and emphasise that you really need the break from all the work at home.

Try Lanzarote instead. Lots of posh bits, and more to see and do than Fuerteventura.

SecretSquirrels · 15/07/2012 17:24

We went to this hotel in Fuertaventura. Fab and not at all chavvy.
A mix of nationalities, activities for children and set on the most beautiful beach.

mirpuppet · 15/07/2012 17:40

ell DH not a holiday for you If he is keen on SOF perhaps you can budget more for eating out.

Or he could agree too cook/ clean & entertain the children for 4 days without asking you for any assistance.

bringbacksideburns · 15/07/2012 17:46

Why the assumption they are all Chavvy? They aren't.

Sorry but my 10 year old would have to go along with what the family want and that includes a well deserved break for you too. Maybe remind him he is very lucky and some kids have a holiday once in a blue moon?

Geordieminx · 15/07/2012 19:11

You want to go here tis truly amazing. Not a chav in sight Wink

Vagaceratops · 16/07/2012 07:41

I have done AI a few times. I do think that the price puts some people off, as well as the 'we only like English food' brigade.

talkingnonsense · 16/07/2012 07:50

I think the title is a typo, it's the dh that doesn't want to do an ai.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 16/07/2012 12:16

Why don't you come to a compromise? I personally wouldn't want to go to a huge AI hotel, but nor would I want to spend my holiday cooking and cleaning.

Perhaps suggest a nice apartment in a resort where you can eat out every night and where there is a pool for your boys.

It's not fair for either of you to have a holiday you are not going to enjoy so you need to decide on something you both like and would be good for your boys too.

ExitPursuedByABear · 16/07/2012 12:19

We did an all inclusive in Sardinia - not a chav in sight there, and then last year in Cuba - again no chavs, but DD finishes school 2 weeks before the state schools which is when we tend to go away so that might have something to do with it.

Hassled · 16/07/2012 12:22

Oh but Port Grimaud is sooo pretty and lovely :o.

Compromise - do your 14 nights all inclusive but go somewhere a bit more imaginative/different than Fuerteventura.
