Turkey currency

We are off to an all inclusive hotel. Are we best taking Turkish Lira, Euros or Pounds?

We won't need much except for shops/ markets. I would have thought Lira but a friend said they all want euros over there.

You will need Lira if you buy/pay anything officially, like a bus, museum, post etc.

Euros are also good, you can often pay in cafes etc with them.

Lira is best if you just want to buy things in shops and markets. They will take any currency but I wouldn't bother with Euros as, it isn't worth changing them up. If you have some left over from another holiday then take them if you want but other than that don't bother. You can use sterling easily enough if you need to.

Thanks for the replies, think I will just take sterling then and save myself a job! Smile

But the conversion rate on the euro is really good at the moment. I use a mixture of sterling and euros.

Not got any spare euros, maybe should take all 3 currencies!

Just don't want to be left with any as we are all inclusive so not much to spend it on.

We usually take £150-200 in Lira and the rest in Sterling, the rates are better there.

ENormaSnob · 10/07/2012 18:24

We took lira and sterling.

They seemed to prefer sterling and most things were priced in pounds.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 12/07/2012 11:20

It is pointless exchanging sterling to euro and then euro to lira!

Also it depends where you go, euros may be ok in Antalya but in Bodrum they prefer sterling.
