I don't live in London but have to go there in a few weeks with my 1 year old, we will need to travel on the underground and I'm worrying about how to do this with a pushchair, any advice?!?

I would tube it. Bear in mind that you have to get about five different lifts from street level down to the platforms at Kings X but it's easy to change at Green Park and there are lovely lifts at Westminster.

Waterloo is bit more of a pain in the arse plus it's busier

I used to go around the tube (incl.kings cross) with a double buggy, to get to hospital appointments, and if there were stairs to negotiate, was INVARIABLY offered help from a member of the public. Just don't do it in rush hour.
There is a bus that does a round trip of the main line terminus stations though, it would take ages.

The tube might be busier during the Olympics but I bet you all the tourists and out-of-towners are much nicer and more helpful than some of the usual Tube crew...

I doubt it nelly

firawla · 14/07/2012 10:59

i doubt it too. people give londoners a bad reputation for no reason, most are helpful anyway!

klaritaf · 14/07/2012 11:12

so I have always found firawla, its the tourists and out of towners who walk around in a bubble, too busy not getting lost to notice anyone around them.
As I said,I was invariably offered help.

This is an older post so might not be relevant now but I've created an iPhone app since I struggled with stairs on the Underground with my son. Its called Mumderground www.mumderground.com Its a reference guide for each station to tell you if it has stairs (how many), escalators, lifts etc...hope its useful to some!

Free journey planning apps like Citymapper now handle step-free routing.
