Need to find a chain for travel to the south. DS is 3 and DD is still in a cot so really travelodge style would be great. Any tips please. thanks

Formulae 1 are a Travel Lodge type chain -might be worth Googling that.

Its a long time since DP stayed in one but he said its basically what you would imagine from that type of accomodation -cheap, cheerful and clean.

The Ibis 's on the edge of towns , near the motorways or shopping areas, are cheaper and have fewer frills !

We always stay in a Novotel & eat somewhere else (cheaper). The family rooms for us (4) work out cheaper than 2 rooms in a Formule1 (which is was severely talked out of on an old thread btw), and a full breakfast is included. Rooms have a double, single & pull out bed, great bathroom & there is always a pool too! We often do Dover/Calais & down to Med (or even Spain) so used to this now!

I thought Formule 1 didn't have ensuites?

lapsedrunner · 02/03/2006 08:23

Etap are good but don't provide cots, rooms have a double bed with a clever single bunk above.

Ibis are one step up from Etap and do provide cots.

They are all owned by the same company (as are Novotel, Mercure & Sofitel) www.accor.com

Formule 1 are the pits, they do not have en-suite and I would be very suprised if you had room for a cot.

KeepingMum · 02/03/2006 08:54

Formule 1 are extremely basic! But since we were staying in one after a camping trip and were getting a 6.00 ferry it was fine. I don't think they do en-suite. The loos are in the corridor and flush themselves and the floor if you aren't out quick enough! We had a double bed with a bunk across the top (ds was 3 and managed to sleep without falling out).
We would use them again for stopovers or early/late starts as they are so cheap and normally near a port. Wouldn't recommend them for luxury though

Another vote for Ibis.
We stayed in one in Bruges but I know they have them in France.
We were close to underground so we could get around well.
Gorgeous hotel actually, massive rooms, very clean and good breakfast facilities.

prettybird · 02/03/2006 09:06

The alternative to Formule 1 is Mister Bed - they do have a wee shower/bathroom ensuite, but only cost a few euors more. Very basic, but if all you are wainting is somewhere top bunk down while you are en route somewhere, they are fine.

Ibis are quite reasonable.

When we went to the South of France 3 years ago, we stayed in a Quality Inn near Dijon. Cost us about £40-45 when we phoned direct. They speak in French but switch to English no problem. We got a 2 roomed family room for that, separated by an archway. VERY good value!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 02/03/2006 16:11

Forgot to vote for IBIS.

crunchie · 02/03/2006 17:36

Formule1 has rooms that are suitable for 3, it is a double with a single like a bunk bed style. Prob no room for a cot. We ended up in two rooms, with 4 people.

The one we prefered was B&B do a search and they have family rooms with a little mezanine upstairs and en suite bathrooms.

Ibis and etap whioch have been mentioned are probably OK, but none sleep 4 which we needed except B&B
