If you are going to drive:-

  1. Turn your Sat Nav off (because of the temporary one-way systems) and follow the local signs.
  2. Allow a bit of extra travelling time because the main public car park (Queens Parade/Queens Avenue) is closed (it is water logged). There are a number of alternative public car parks ? follow the signs.

Enjoy yourself

Did anyone go then? (I had a great time (although I was working)).

GaryTankCommander · 15/07/2012 20:08

The F18 was awesome!!! The airbus, well what can you say about the airbus, there are no words! The Osprey, very swish! Grin

ProPerformer · 15/07/2012 20:08

Didn't go .... Live in Fleet right in the flight path so got to see all the flying displays for free from the park down the road! :D Have been seeing (and hearing) bl**dy planes flying overhead for the past fortnight!! GRRR!!

DanFmDorking · 15/07/2012 20:56

I enjoyed the Red Arrows and the Vulcan.
I was very impressed by the Euro-Fighter and the Saab Grippen.
Yes the Airbus was incredible; it was so big it hardly seemed to move.

DanFmDorking · 15/07/2012 20:58

... and the pyrotechnics of the Tornados were loud!

GaryTankCommander · 15/07/2012 21:00

Ooh yes the Vulcan... Amazing that it's old (1950s I think)... IMO its very modern looking.

pepperrabbit · 15/07/2012 21:11

We went this afternoon and had a brilliant time.
ProPerformer - I'm in Fleet too and have spent the last 10 days leaping out of the back door to see which plane is roaring overhead, without actually being able to see them Angry, so it was great to actually watch the display properly.
Huge queues for the kids stuff as it was so wet yesterday a lot of people deferred to today.
All 3 DC and i leapt about a foot when the first explosion went off for the Tornados!!!

crunchbag · 15/07/2012 21:23

We watched the show both yesterday and today from the hill opposite the end of the runway and really enjoyed it.
We got waves from the bomb guy in the Lancaster Grin

Meglet · 15/07/2012 21:33

We saw the Airbus in 2010. I have no idea how it stays up, I could have walked faster Confused.

Something roared over Amazingstoke earlier but I didn't get into the garden quick enough.

I'm excited about 2014 now!

pugsandseals · 16/07/2012 12:02

Ended up watching from a distance in the drizzle on Saturday. The main carpark was closed as it was too muddy. We parked on the road outside & had the whole park pretty much to ourselves, with only a short walk to our own portaloos the other side of the park. Had a great view of everything until Mr policeman came along at about 5pm & asked us to move. Apparently the road was newly resurfaced so should have had yellow lines. So we had to move & ended up seeing the Vulcan from miles away! Shame, as that's what we really went to see.
Anyone know why there were only 7 red arrows by the way???

GaryTankCommander · 16/07/2012 19:10

I think there were only 7 of 9 red arrows because one pilot was recently killed in a crash and the woman red arrows pilot quit recently. Maybe they've not replaced, retrained yet... Maybe they're going to stick with 7 from now on?Smile

SucksToBeMe · 16/07/2012 19:30

We went yesterday and sat on a roundabout outside. It was a great day! DS is 3 but loved it. The airbus was the best,it was flying so slow i thought it was going to drop out of the sky! The jets are amazing, its like F1 in the air! Would reccomend it to any age group.

crunchbag · 16/07/2012 20:12

Yes that is what I heard too, they lost 2 pilots and the woman pilot left the team so they decided to fly with 7 this season.

There were 10 of them at the airshow, they flew right over our heads when they left on Sunday

GaryTankCommander · 16/07/2012 20:17

I'm not sure why a smiley appeared when I'm writing about a pilot who died in a crash... Apologies it was totally accidental. Blame the app?!

DanFmDorking · 16/07/2012 21:59

Yes, they lost two pilots during 2011. One of their formations (the phoenix I think) was in memory of their colleagues.
Also, they flew the ?Heart? but without the arrow through it.

crunchbag · 16/07/2012 22:36

The heart was good but everyone was waiting for the arrow that didn't come. They couldn't do the heart on Saturday with the low clouds. But even then they were impressive :)

I enjoyed watching the tornadoes on Sunday, it looked like they were really enjoying themselves. On Saturday it was more a case of hide and seek, wondering from which cloud the plane would appear.
