Central, or close to a direct metro/train. Ideally with parking as I'd like to drive there but I guess we could always Eurostar it.

Travellodge type place would be OK as I'd rather save my money for sightseeing/wine.

If you Eurostar then this is close to Gard du Nord. Its a fairly basic chain hotel but we had no problems and you could walk into the centre easily and there are bus and metro stops nearby.

hello - after getting advice from mumsnetters and from trip advisor paris forum we decided to use an agency and rent an apartment . We used Centreparis and having been happy with an apartment last year near Place de Republique we then used them again early this year and stayed in the Marais. Happy with both apartments. Think the one last year was bigger and cost us about £80 a night (or was it £80 euro?) - it was a bargain anyway compared to what we would have paid for hotel room (5 of us) - so it was difficult finding family room that size anyway. I would go for an apartment any time as offered much more flexibility with foodd. \hope that helps. kate

We stayed in an Etap hotel - This one.

It was a bit noisy, but you could ask I'm sure for a room away from the road - Paris is a 24hr city after all. Secure parking was inexpensive, and being near the peripherique meant no driving through central paris.

It was fine and ds liked the breakfast (all you can eat yogurts, bread, jam, hot choclate...). The chap on the front desk was very friendly.

BUT I'm not sure I'd want to stay for longer than a few nights, and the first traveller's photo on that Tripadvisor link is of a bedbug Grin We thought it was perfectly clean, but there you go. Maybe the person posting the revie planted it there Hmm

What's your budget? Getting a self catering flat can be easier with children and saves money on eating out. WWW.ownersdirect.com has some good ones.

Self catering does sound good.

We had an absolute blast btw. Did all the touristy things that I'd been too much of a twat cool to do when I went as a would-be beatnik.

Sorry I should say we have just returned from Paris. We stayed in a lovely apartment. We could come and go as we pleased and the lovely french windows opened onto the bustling street below. All felt very much like being part of the city.
