Travelling to Egypt with Israeli passport stamps?

We are going on holiday to Egypt in a couple of months and DH reckons we may have problems because we have israeli stamps in our passports. We visited Israel in 2009 and were stamped in and out.

Does anybody know anything about this? I've googled and found out we may have problems but it can't find out what kind of problems. Will they refuse is entry etc?

Will I need to order new passports? I don't really want to if I can help it as we all still have years left!

I honestly think that you should be fine, but if you are worried, have a look at the contact details here for the consulate.

In some Arab states, you might have more difficulties, but Egypt has in recent years been fine. I have not idea if the recent elections may have made things more difficult, and if you are concerned I would call the consulate for advice.

Thanks, I did wonder if the recent elections would have any impact. I will maybe contact the consulate anyway, thanks for the link.

Not sure about UK passports but as a German citizen and passport holder I have the right to carry two German passports with me when I want to travel to Egypt but have previously travelled to Isreal.

i believe it's fine - i live in Israel, and although i have a second "clean" passport for travel in the Arab world, i know Israelis who have travelled to Egypt. The two countries have a peace treaty, so theoretically it's fine. I think it's outside the airport where the problems start in light of recent upheavals, and then it's best to keep quiet about travelling to Israel, given current hostility on the street. But i can't imagine that it would be a problem at hotels etc.

Thanks.

I did ring and was told we should be ok as we're not planning to travel outside of Sharm. We did Cairo, Luxor etc a few years ago so this holiday is just a chill by the pool holiday.

It's that 'should be ok' which still makes me a bit nervous! I wish they'd said we 'would' be ok!

That's because there are different passport rules in Sinai, especially regarding Israel. Some countries don't need a visa for Sinai (including Sharm) but you would need one if you were then traveling outside Sinai (Luxor, Cairo). When you go by car/bus, there are passport checks as you enter/depart Sinai

You're right to worry - I was interrogated by fully armed and f*ing scary Israeli army women, when I travelled to Israel after coming from Egypt. The amount of hassle was unbelievable - almost as bad as travelling with Ryanair.
Egyptians were friendly though, but that was before the revolution / election.
