If you were taking another child away for a week, how much spending money would you expect?

My fantastic BIL and SIL are taking ds away with their two kids for a week. The accommodation is paid for by the PILs (who are going too) but Bil and Sil will be taking ds out and about. Obviously I want to give them some money so they're not too out of pocket for trips etc. Equally obviously I will ask them, but knowing them they will absolutely refuse to name an amount ('oh you don't need to... oh whatever you think') and may also be a bit upset if I produce a massively low estimate! I'd really like to know what you would regard as reasonable for this. TIA

I'd say £5/ day for sundries like ice cream etc and £10/ day out. I'd guess that whilst every day there will be sundries they won't pay admissions every day. £75 would seam about right to me.

Brilliant, thank you.

I think £75s a bit low personally. Are they having to buy his meals and drinks with that?

I would give them nearer £100-£150 depending on where they are going (you don't say if UK or abroad etc....) and if they are self-catering or in a hotel...

They can always give you a big chunk back if they don't need it Smile

You're right, I hadn't even thought about the food! Which I should have done because ds is at the stage where he is always hungry.

I'd give £150 and expect that they would happily keep £100 and maybe give a bit back at the end or I'd tell them to buy a meal out as thank you.
£20 a day is good enough expenses really. Otherwise it's costing you more than a normal holiday.

I think I would give £150 plus but the parents a nice present such as a wine hamper or restaurant voucher.
