Travelling with Jet2

I've posted on here before about taking a 7 month old to Madeira but wondered if anyone has any experience flying with Jet2 and in particular Leeds/Bradford Airport?
I was going to check my child's car seat in at the check-in desk but someone on another post mentioned it will need to be taped/bagged and I read a post about easyjet that mentioned you can take it straight to the gate. Confused as to what to do!
We're flying in under 4 weeks and wondered what it is like with a baby sat on your lap for 4 hours!

I can only comment on what I've seen, but unless you book a seat on the plane for the child, you won't be able to use the car seat on the plane. You could probably use the car seat in the terminal and hand it to be put in the hold when you board, but it will probably go to baggage reclaim on arrival. You could put it in a bag for car seats before it goes in the hold but that's a faff when you're holding a baby as well and trying to board. I think using a sling would be best so that you have both hands free for boarding, especially as you will need to get to baggage reclaim at the destination.

If you check it in with luggage it's best to give it some protection from the baggage handlers!

I can speak from experience of a 4hr flight with a 21mo on my lap, it's not so bad, but a 7mo will be a fairyweight in comparison. You can stand up and walk up and down the aisle for a change of scene, and will probably need to do a nappy change at some point; practice holding the baby while struggling with your own clothes when you go to the loo, I have had to do this in ordinary public loos!

Have a few small toys to play with, and a favourite comforter or a dummy for sleep time. Play the usual games you play with your baby. Feed as an when needed, and the time will pass quite quickly.

Not using the car seat on the plane! Just wasn't sure what is best - checking it in at check in or taking it to the gate with pushchair (it clips on to it!) and going in the hold that way.
Thanks for your reply.

Flew with a 22 month old to the Far East and even though we'd paid for a seat DS spent most of his time on my lap on the way there. It wasn't so bad as he's fairly light so i don't think you'd have a problem with a 7 month old.

I've never flown with a car seat but i imagine packing it in a soft bag with clothes around it would be best. Saves it getting knocked on the journey.

I can't remember having never seen anyone with a car seat at the gate in Leeds (it's my local airport) but it might be best to give Jet 2 a call to see if it's possible.

Thanks. I have seen a bag you can get for £39.99. I may invest in it.

I've flown from LB with Jet2 a few times but not with a baby. When ours were babies I always paid for a seat for them. They have to sit on your lap for take off but you can use the seat afterwards.
I recommend you take a packed lunch or buy food at the airport because the stuff they sell on board is dreadful and they also ran out of most things on the return flight. Otherwise no problems with Jet2.

Thanks SecretSquirrels.

I must admit milk and food was a nightmare to think about. I know they have a superdrug airside but didn't think they sold milk and food for babies but just been into a high street store and they do!!!
Not paying for a seat for LO. I think we'll manage between me and his daddy!

Thanks again!
