Livesey Museum in London anyone?

I am going to this museum on Thursday and it lookds great from the website, though very small. They do not appear to have any facilities such as cafe, shop etc. Has anyone been there before and is there anything near by where we could go for lunch or another activity we could go onto?

The kids are 5, 4.5 and my toddler.

Thanks!

Its a children's museum on the Old Kent Rd. Looks nice from the website, but I don't know the area at all so was hoping for some tips.

I keep meaning to try this. What was it like?

we went after a reccommendation on here. it is very small indeed. quite well done i thought. ds, just 4, wasn't terribly impressed. the garden was pretty good, better in summer. didn't find anywhere for lunch (we scurried back north of the river :o). i wouldn't make a big effort to go back there, but we are very spoilt for activities (& great places to eat) in hackney.

Well, I thought it was fabulous and would definately go again. The journey was quite long and you really do end up into the depths of South London! But the museum really was a gem. Yes, it is small, but there was plenty to do. We had printed off and read some of the myths and legends from their website ahead of time (with my 4.5 year old) and he was able to see exhibits that relate to them. The whole thing was hands on and really child friendly. The staff gave us a pack to take home with a story book, pages of activities to do, and enough craft material to make two of the activities. The whole thing was free(though we did leave a donation).

I would definately recommend it and would go again.

I think the Livesy is great if you live near enough to it although am not sure if would travel for more than 45 mins to it.

Its very laid back, hardly ever crowded and more like a permanent art installation than a museum. The garden is also a nice little oasis on the Old Kent Road. But it doesn't have any of the usual museum facilities. However its only about 15 mins on the bus from Imperial War Museum which does and also has nice park plus 1 o' clock club.

Also it has a Sure Start under 5's session on Wednesdays where they often do special things like story telling/ singing etc.

We love it too. You need to get stuck in and get creative. The more you put in the more you get out. So kids need to be in the mood and so do you! Local cafe situation is dire but parking easy in surrounding streets.
