Eeasyjet from Amsterdam to London, NOT family friendly at all

www.mumsnet.com/family-friendly/easyjet don't make me laugh.

Flew from Schipol, Amsterdam (not exactly an obscure provincial airport) to London

15min schlep to the gate, which was announced at the very last minute.
Go there with 20month old DS in a buggy and looked down a double flight of concrete steps with NO LIFT. Asked ground staff to help me carry him down.

"No not allowed". Asked why there was not lift, she said Easy jet had picked this gate, (probably because it was cheap)

In the end, she offered to hold DS (at top of said concrete flight of steps whilst i took buggy down and then came up for DS.)
Not one person offered to help, although one lady pushed my buggy along in the queue so i didn't lose my place as the other hordes of cheapskate travellers swarmed down.

The ground staff probably aren't allowed to carry passengers even if the wanted to help. Insurance/health&safety ?

I have used Easyjet many times, and love them - although not with very young children, but they are what they say they are. No frills.

Just goes to show that while facilities and accessibility in UK may be good, you cannot rely on it being the same in other countries, and there will always be the risk of last minute changes to gates and so on.

Even in Luton airport there are departure gates where anyone able bodied has to go down stairs to the tarmac to board the buses or walk to the plane, carrying DC/buggies/hand luggage, and these are not all easyjet flights. I agree with you, it should be the airports making the modifications so that all gates are easily accessible and all areas within the terminal buildings.

I've flown to Schipol many times and it's a vast airport so you can often get very long walks to and from the gates.

If you can wait a year or so you'll be able to get Eurostar direct to Amsterdam Centraal. 4 hours odd, but probably quicker than flying once you factor in all the tedium involved with flying these days.
