Looking to take my little ones on a day out with my OH this weekend - we live in Yorkshire. Any suggestions anyone?

The Forbidden Corner. We went there a few weeks ago when we spent a week near Thirsk. It was a fantastic place one of my favourite days out ever. DS (3) loved it but you need to book in advance and might be a bit scary for really small ones.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster. I have been a couple of times and every time we go it gets better. A friend of mine went on Monday and she says it was fabulous. It isn't Chester Zoo, but has lions and tigers, plus several walk through enclosures. The staff always give every interesting talks on the animals as well.

Where roughly in Yorkshire are you?

Kazriina · 27/06/2012 07:50

albertswearengen were meant to go on Saturday, do you think I'll be ok at 37 weeks pregnant? I can't remember what it's like and I'm concerned I'll be exhausted!

Sorry for gate crashing your post op, but I'd second forbidden corner!

WhatWouldMargoDo · 27/06/2012 07:53

I've always wanted to go to forbidden corner but never been.

Knaresborough is a nice day out too, you can walk round the castle, go in mother shipton's cavern, go on a boat on the river etc, very pleasant.

VivaLeBeaver · 27/06/2012 08:01

Yorkshire wildlife park is fab.

Brimham Rocks.

A great big area covered by big rocks (funnily enough) that the kids can climb on. Doesn't sound like much but you can easily spend the day there.

If you take a picnic, it's a cheap day out.

I think we really need to know which bit of the very big county would be best for you! We had a great family walk at Malham Cove in March but that might be a bit of a trek with very little ones.

Fountains Abbey is nice, near Ripon. I can recommend the Yorkshire Wildlife Park too, or Cannon Hall Farm.

QueenOfIndecision · 28/06/2012 20:44

yes, where are you and how old are your DC?

ValerieDavis · 29/06/2012 14:31

East Yorkshire - DD (7) & DS (5).

Thanks for your suggestions - keep them coming pls :-)

Railway museum in york is free, Honeysuckle farm in Hornsea is pretty cheap & cheerful but good. Also the Deep in Hull, but sure you know about that already :)

albertswearengen · 29/06/2012 20:46

Kazriina sorry I haven't been back on this thread to now. I wouldn't have managed it when I was 37 weeks pregnant mostly because a third of it is underground with narrow passages and steps and I probably wouldn't have fitted. I could imagine it would be quite damp and slippy after all this rain. It is absolutely fabulous - I wasn't expecting much but we're going to make a special trip back to Yorkshire to go again after the summer holidays. There is a nice tea room to sit in if it's too much.

There's a nice little zoo on the outskirts of Bridlington. Tiny, more of a stately home with some nice grounds, penguins, a peacock and an alpaca. But it was a nice couple of hours spent there followed by the arcades and chips in Brid.

ValerieDavis · 09/07/2012 16:50

VivaLeBeaver - what's the zoo called? My DD & DS love animals!

Thanks for the suggestion Pootles2010, we've been to The Deep yes - was a great day out!

The little zoo is at Sewerby Hall, just north of Bridlington. There are nice gardens there and you can get the land train across the cliff top to Brid and back.

Honeysuckle farm is fab too or a day at the coast, filey, Brid, Scarborough or Whitby or Robin Hoods bay a bit further out.
