We are going camping the first week of Aug. Probably around Llanberis / Beddgelert way as dh wants to bugger off go climbing during the day.
What can we do? My googling attempt has come up with the mountain railway, the grave at Beddgelert (ds would like the story). Anybody got anymore ideas?

The zoo in Colwyn Bay is a surprising gem, and worth a visit. Conwy and its castle is very pretty. The Ffestiniog railway really is worth a trip but don't do it on a rainy day because part of the enjoyment is the views from the train.

Electric mountain at llanberis, you go on an u derground tour.

There are copper mines at bedgelert which are good for a rainy day.

Ice creams in bedgelert and a walk along the riverside path, it's very pretty.

Go over to Anglesey, there is an national trust property with an adventure playground, nice beaches and also a small aquarium. I'd only bother with the aquarium if you're desperate to be honest.

Go for dinner in Petes Eats in llanberis. I do think it's gone downhill since they extended it but it's still a great cafe.

Penrhyn Castle outside Bangor is great- It has some old steam trains the kids can climb on and pretend to drive, and a nice cafe, and huge grounds. I don't know if you'd want to go into the actual castle with such young children, but when I worked there you could pay a smaller fee for going into the grounds only.

There's a free slate museum in Llanberis, which in itself is a bit dull for young kids, but there's a nice playground, a lovely spooky lake where people go diving (not the big Padarn lake- this one is in a gully, and is an amazing azure colour because of the slate) and you can visit the old quarry hospital, which my DS LOVES because it's spooky and has old medical gear. Hmm :o

Pili Palas on Anglesey is a butterfly zoo type thing- It's great, has snakes and creepy crawlies, a soft play area and a playground.

If it's nice weather, you should go for a walk in Glynllifon. It's a beautiful old manor with lovely grounds, and there's a few things there that relate to stories from the Mabinogi- Your 4yo would probably like that! Perfect place for a picnic and a run around, and doesn't seem to attract the tourists it should.

I have now made myself homesick! :)

GreenWood Forest Park is definitely the place to go with children that age!

Thanks very much everybody!
I shall now start praying for good weather.
