Ryanair worries - could me and dh realistically be split up from our small dcs?

Evening all,
We are flying to Italy on Wednesday with RyanAir. Have not paid for priority boarding as all their extras annoy me too much. I was under the impression, perhaps wrongly, that they would never let a 2 yo and a 5 yo sit unaccompanied by their parents - is that right?!
Have heard something to the contrary and am now worried that this could happen. Am not bothered where in the plane we sit as long as one dc is next to one dp!
Anyone any experience of that?

Bertie - but that doesn't include a bag or "fees" (another £82).

If it's just you and a hold bag great whereas the £122 includes both and a seat (but might charge more for a credit card?).

I get that it is whoever fly's out of a nearby airport. I Heathrow is closest but that has massive airport taxSad

Jet 2 though are notorious (at least from flying out of Italy) for cancelling at the last minute) Happened to 2 friends of ours.

I have just seen on the Ryanair site (checking in for Saturday) that we'llsoon be able tpre-book seats(for a fee of course!)

Flying with Ryanair is not a problem if you get to the gate in time.

DP just flew out with Ryanair and the one bag was included, I thought. Perhaps I was wrong - I'll ask him. He had 1 bag of 20kg and 1 hand luggage bag of 10kg.

MissRepresentation · 21/06/2012 10:46

no, only the hand luggage is included, the hold bag is added on.

I flew with them last year. They are awful.
If I had to travel with them again, I would def get priority boarding.
We had helpful boarding cabin staff from Stanstead but awfully rude staff on our return journey, as well as rude passengers like one woman remarking loudly 'there's always one, isn't there?' when I was getting frustrated at not finding seats for my 4 and 2 yr old and myself together.
Thankfully there are also lovely, kind people around too.

Sorry, 5 and 3 yr old. I can't do the maths!

We flew with Ryanair for a wedding not long ago (no other airlines flying to the airport there) and they managed to break a bit off the back of DD's car seat even though it was in a bag (not a black bin liner) and we had flaming well paid for the privilege of taking it, which no other airlines charge you for.

We go out of our way to avoid them if we possibly can and have done since we had DD. They are ok for single travellers going away for a night or two - in fact, I loved them when I used to fly to Newquay for long weekends surfing (well, lying on a board and drowning occasionally) in Cornwall - a nightmare for families.

You pay for everything other than one carry on bag which is smaller than any other airlines allow. Aer Lingus even allow a changing bag as well as your other carry on bag and handbag, or they did when we travelled recently. Not all budget airlines are created equal...

If there's a real scrum to get on the plane, either you or your DP could fight through the crowds and 'reserve' your seats, while the other one follows with the kids?

I have flown with AirAsia before and it's even worse - you can either pay for the seats of your choice, or they will allocate you a seat at random, which probably won't be with the rest of your group. In practice what happens is most people just sit wherever they want, then there is a fight if someone actually wants to sit in their allocated seat.

Bertie the last two times I've flown from France to UK with Ryanair the flight crews have been Spanish.

If you're only taking hand luggage, we've just bought some really good cases on wheels, very light and approved size for the likes of Ryanair that you can fit your 10kg of luggage into. They're so light even the DCs can pull them along. I will be fitting my entire two week wardrobe for my summer holidays into one.

BertieBotts · 21/06/2012 17:13

Ahh no now I remember it was higher - that makes sense. Ah, perhaps the others aren't that much more expensive, then.
