Where shall we go? Mumsnet wisdom needed

Good grief, I'm usually good at this sort of thing - but the options are overwhelming!
Can anyone suggest something which might fit our requirements?

Planning a holiday for next summer half term: last wk of May and first wk of June.
Me, DH, DD1 (6) and soon-to-be-born DD2 (who'll be 8 months by then).
Needs to be hot.
Good swimming pool(s).
Not self-catering. Not this time buster!
A spa on-site.
Near a beach.
But! DH can't abide resorts in the middle of nowhere, so we'll need some local culcha too. Someplace interesting!
I'm hoping we can fly from Manchester.
And our budget is bigger than usual but not astounding. Maybe £4k?

Hope someone can recommend an AMAZING place that fits the bill perfectly :)

Princess Yaiza Lanzarote?
Lykia World Turkey?
Vila Vita Parc, Portugal?

topsmart · 14/06/2012 16:24

Ooh thanks! I'll check them out. Princesa Yaiza looks amazing. Have you stayed at all of these?

Yes, over several years. Had good holidays (and kids were happy) at all!

I went to Lykia World Turkey in May half term when my kids were just a bit older than yours. It was Fab-u-lous with a capital F.

BUT:

  1. it was a long time ago - I'm hoping they would have refurbished by now, as it was starting to look tired then.

  2. We stayed in the hotel/main building bit, (The Residence) which was plusher than the apartments and more central to the main pool and restaurants. Some of the 'garden' rooms as I think they called them were a bit of an uphill trek, and pretty basically furnished for the money. The place is perfect for young families though. Could not be better. We found the food very good by AI standards, the scenery was stunning, the Turkish people are friendly and love the Brits, and it wasn't too far to go into Olu Deniz, Hisoronu (sp?) or (a bit further) Fetiye.

We went twice. Grin (the non-AI bar bill was horrendous though, but that was probably our fault.) Blush

Porto Sani Village, Greece?

topsmart · 14/06/2012 16:54

Cor, the Lykia world has 19 swimming pools! tripadvisor ratings are positive from recent travellers so hopefully not too dated. Am going to google the sh!t out of these tonight, thanks Smile

We have just come back from Pefkos, Rhodes, a fortnight same dates as you require. The day temp was mid 20's and a bit cool in the evening the first week, then much hotter and able to sit out with no cardi at night second week.

We stayed at the Island Blue hotel, part of a group including the Pefki Islands and the Lindia Thalassa. The accommodation is mostly self catering, but you can have B AND B at the Island Blue. The breakfasts are very good, the dinners less so sadly. The advantage is that you can use all the pools, bars, restaurant etc in the complex. The L.T. has a spa, and there is a supermarket close by. Beach is 200m away down stone steps. It isn't very deep from land to waters edge, but on the plus side you are close to DC playing in the water, which is shallow for quite a way out. The hotel pool is good with a shallow 40cm deep section for toddlers. If you are lucky, you can watch weddings happening at the little chapel.

It isn't far to shops and restaurants, but a bit hilly. If you can get to ones up the hill, you are rewarded by spectacular sunsets.

There are some two bed apartments, which we had although we didn't need! One self contained bedroom with en suite shower room, and a main bedroom with kitchenette and shower room and a balcony with table and four chairs. There is a fridge, kettle, toaster, sandwich toaster, iron and ironing board and all the usual pans, glasses, crockery and cutlery. Hair dryers in shower rooms, TV in main room. I know you don't want to self cater but you might want a drink when the DC are asleep. Cots seem to be the travel cot sort.

Culture: Lindos is a short taxi ride away (8 euro one way) you could get the bus but they are often full and you don't want to climb up to the acropolis midday. The shops are quite quaint, but it's not easy with a buggy as it's on a hillside and there are a lot of steps.

You can fly from Manchester on Weds and Sats, 4hrs 15mins flight. We went with Thomsons. We paid just under 2200.00 for the two of us B and B. The official rating is 3* but I would rate it a bit higher.

If you're interested, book early as there are only 34 apartments in addition to the 52 rooms and they get booked up by wedding parties quickly.

Topsmart, did you look at the website www.islandblue.gr/ ? If you look at the photos you can see the room and apartment interiors. Also look at www.pefkosexclusive.co.uk for a map and resort info.
