Lovely warm holiday with interesting animals?

Any thoughts please. Safaris look incredibly expensive, which I guess is what I'd really like to do, but is there anything less pricey?
Normal holidays are camping and hiking up mountains but I can't realistically do long distance hiking or go up mountains at the moment. Probably sensible for there to be decent hospitals within a reasonable distance too.
Had to be the last 2 weeks in August.
I think this is an impossible challenge isn't it!

When you say "...can't...go up mountains..." do you mean mountaineering, or just common or garden walking? If the former, then Exodus have a bear watching trip in Carpathia that could fit the bill. I know a couple of people who have travelled with Exodus and had great holidays.

P.S. - if the latter then don't click, it will depress you!

There's also a company called Nature Trek that offer whale & dolphin watching holidays. Only came across them when searching though, so can't provide a personal recommendation.

I'm having cardiac stuff looked at unfortunately and I think going up and down mountains and altitude stuff is probably out at the moment :( the bear watching would be ace otherwise. One to put on the to do list when they've fixed me!

Nature trek sounds interesting - thank you :)

Considering Yellowstone to see bears and wolves and geysers but it might be a bit too long haul and energetic at the moment.

Thank you very much for your suggestions :)

Ah, sorry to hear that - no, anything mountainy probably not good.

Have you considered Poland or Finland maybe? (Poland would be warmer admittedly). Both have bears and wolves. Will toddle off and see if I can find something.

MoonlightandRoses · 14/06/2012 23:01

Maybe something like

Finnish bears ?

The Polish ones seem to be down in the Tatra, so possibly a bit mountainy.

If it's any help, have been on safari and, yes, was lovely, but the wildlife is slightly, umm, elusive for many (we were lucky in our tracker) but the arachnids are, sadly, not...(or maybe we were unlucky with the eight legged beasties). Smile

That looks like an amazing holiday :) really really up my street! I'll have to talk to dh about the cost - but wow! Thank you!

Grin - you never know, they might be a bit flexible on cost with the times that are in it! (Well, never any harm in asking...)

Parco dell'uccellina, Tuscany.
Lots of cycling lanes, walking in the park (spotting deers and wild pigs), canoeing in the rivers, beautiful beaches.
Not many animals, i must admit, but the park is stunning and there are lots of gentle, pleasant walks.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 15/06/2012 17:05

that does sound beautiful Franca :)

We have decided.......
The Camargue :) wild horses and flamingoes and lots of gentle walking with good food. Thank you for your ideas though, they are filed away for future!

DukeHumfrey · 17/06/2012 13:02

Australia is fab, but maybe too far/pricey. Really worth it though if you could do it.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 17/06/2012 18:07

Australia would be a dream destination!
Just trying to find a property near the Camargue now. If all fails we'll camp. Thank you for the tip on the mossies, I did wonder if they would be an issue!
