Just me and DH Grin Grin

Please recommend some lovely things to do/places to go. I'm thinking exhibitions, galleries, champagne bars Blush.

He's organising dinner and booking a hotel so we won't need a big lunch.

This is totally a one-off for us so want to make it really special.

Cheese and wine place behind libertys for a snack and Spanish wine.
Vertigo 42 for champagne. Bar on royal festival hall for cocktails. Wine outside embankment station on right towards charging cross is under the arches but can't remember name.

I'd go to the Damien Hirst exhibition at Tate modern. A friend took me To Mark's Bar on Brewer St when I was in London for work and it was tres grown up, v lovely cocktails.

We went to the War rooms/Churchill museum on Monday.
It was even very interesting for me who is not quite as taken with him as DH is. Grin

Can't help with cocktails as we stopped in a few pubs and drank pints!

Oh, I am a BIG fan of afternoon champagne teas. Most of the big 4 and 5 stars hotels do them.

None Acholic cocktails and SERVICE can not in my opinion be beat at claridges.

Thanks everyone - some great ideas. Keep them coming!

I love the National Portrait Gallery - there is really something for everyone, whether you're interested in history or photography. Looking at people is just so interesting! And it doesn't feel like such a slog, as some museums/galleries can do...

Second Royal Festival Hall for cocktails, and Dorchester for afternoon tea. Or the Langham (actually, if DH needs any hotel tips, I would LOVE to stay at the Langham again. They do the best breakfasts, which is officially the best part of staying in a hotel)
The Dorchester also has a rather lovely bar - like a library and last time I was there, we got the snug seat so really good for a private natter

DH and I used to do odd London days out sans kids (these days we go to kitchen shops instead Hmm) - you can sometimes get really good discount on matinee shows, if you are not too fixed on seeing one particular thing and happy to go with the flow

Will keep thinking...
