Going to Spain on holiday in May and i just wondered what to take to to help repel mosquitos for17mo old? WIll probably get a net for cot, but will it be a good idea to get a net for buggy?
Has anyone ever tried natural repellents and have you found them to work??! My friends in oz swear by mixing baby oil and a drop of tcp....

tia for any advice

I've not used it but this?

The best natural repellent is to be away of the beach at dusk.

We had a ladybird when we were in FIJI and it seemed to work

well we didn't get bitten

eidsvold · 22/02/2006 04:03

we used a natural repellant - safe for kids - picked it up at Heathrow - will try and dig it out later to see the brand - worked well on dd1 and dd2 when she arrived.

I have used a net for a pram but the nasty buggers still managed to get under it.

i think i will try one of those ladybird things, but i probably try and use reppelent and a net alongside it. I am just praying DD takes after DH and not me, as i get eaten alive when i go anywhere....

thanks eidsvold would be very handy to know the name of your repellents

Is it something like citronella

singersgirl · 22/02/2006 11:43

Boots do a children's one too, and you can also get children's sunscreen with insect repellent in. I never found citronella very effective in Asia, but did use one called Baby Naturals or something - but think it's an Oz brand.

Apparently mosquitoes are put off by any oil on the skin, so your friend's tip might work. Also they are attracted to light colours, especially light blue. Well, this is what the dengue protection docs used to tell us in Singapore....
