DH and I will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary next year (and my 40th). We are hoping that the grandparents will have the kids for a week, maybe stretching to 10 days so the big question is where should we go...?

We are reasonably adventurous (honeymooned in Vietnam & Cambodia) and do not want somewhere that is just a beach resort as we would prefer to pack a bit more into our time, but I think we do want warm or hot weather (not cold). Probably Sept/Oct time but that is flexible. A direct flight option from UK would be good as we don't mind going a long way, but would prefer not to waste time hanging about for connecting flights.

Our current idea is Japan (Tokyo & Kyoto), but I'd quite like some other suggestions.

What about Hong Kong for a few days (weather should still be nice and warm and not as humid at that time of year) and then head up to Beijing and explore the Great Wall?

What about South America?

Argentina - see the Iguazu Falls; go to amazing restaurants and bars in Buenos Aires; do a tango lesson or two; go to the Glaciers in the south; visit the lake district.

Or Brazil has great mixes of beach and culture on offer.

Or places like Bolivia are just really interesting.

Hello
I can't remember if we had direct flights to Lima but Peru is an amazing place.

We flew to Lima and then had a connecting flight to Cusco . Spent a few days there and then went onto Macchu Picchu (spelling?) THAT WAS AMAZING!! We didn't have time to do the Inca Trail which is a 5 day trek to see Macchu Picchu but that didn't detract from the awesomeness of the place. We then spent 3 nights in the Amazon basin at a research centre hotel in the middle of the rainforest. The place we stayed at was the Sandoval Lake Lodge.

We didn't see much of Lima at all. We also didn't make it to Nasca to see the lines

I would have loved to go to the Cloud Forest in Manu, Peru and also to see the Iguazu Falls mentioned by Ruby above.

We did this trip about 8 years ago and it is by far one of the best holidays we've ever had. Macchu Picchu is one of those places that I feel very privileged to have experienced.

Good Luck with wherever you decide to go and Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday in advance. :)

I just got back from Rio and Iguassa Falls and loved both places.
My suggestion would be Cape Town. So much to do, lovely weather, amazing food and breathtaking scenery.

We went here www.fourseasons.com/maldiveslg/accommodations/rooms/beach_villa_with_pool/
for our last anniversary and it was fab. DH surprised me, had no idea we were going Smile Did lots of scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, jet skiiing etc and I can highly recommend it.

Japan is expensive, but sounds good to me.
I really want to visit India one day, think I'd plump for there.

Liked goa

OK, sounds like I should look into South America. We have never been there at all, but have heard great things. I have been a bit put off by the lack of direct flights but I guess without kids that's less of an issue.

Cape Town is probably not for us. We have been to s Africa before (although not cape town) and I think there are other places we would rather explore.

Thanks everyone.

Japan is fantastic and if you're without children, then i'd definately consider a city holiday. You can get some fantastic deals on flight with the Middle East airlines so maybe you could stopover in Dubai too.

We took the kids to Tokyo & Kyoto and stayed in serivced apartments which made it loads cheaper as we could have breakfast (& sometimes dinner) in.

Remember to pre book bullet train tickets as it's cheaper from here.

We went to Japan for my 40th and it was amazing. You can see quite a lot of it in 10 days.

snail1973 · 10/06/2012 21:02

Thanks Solde. So where should we go... I had got as far as Tokyo and Kyoto as being easy to do by train. Am now wondering if we could push it a bit more and visit a mountain Ibsen resort or get to a nice beach?? Any tips would be v welcome :)
