Thinking of going to Cyprus for a week in the February school holiday. Looking to stay in Paphos as I've had a flick through the brochure and it looks nice. Has anyone been??? What's the weather like in Feb? I've got a young baby (will be 8months by then) so I don't want too hot but also would like a bit of sun!!! Also, my baby will need a passport and I'm at a loss as to how i'm going to get her to sit up in the photo booth!!! How do you get a passport photo of a baby that's acceptable? Please help and apologies for all the exclamation marks!!!!!! (here's some more)

HI

Cyprus is just lovely, admittedly I haven't been in Feb but I don't think it gets particularly cold at any time of the year, apart from in the mountains where they have snow!

I went to Cyprus for my honeymoon, and stayed for a night in Paphos is a fab hotel, the Elysium, which was posh but I did see some children there.

Our DD needed a passport too as she was 9 months when we travelled. Its fun - attempting to hold baby in front of the camera and actually get them in the shot! Of course, you always get your hand / arms in shot too!

to get a photo, go to a photoshop that do passport photos with a camera (most of them do) and take a white cellular blanket or something with you. Lie her down on the blanket (need to have a white background for the passport office) andget them to take the photo from above. Much the easiest way.
Feb is a little bit early for cyprus I think - should be nice but not hot and I'm not sure you'd lie on a beach in a swimsuit at that time of year. Sea is definitely too cold to swim in. Others may have better info - I've only been in April and Sept.

I really do like the sound of it, sounds like you had a lovely time, mum2ela. Just a bit worried about the climate as we would like to sit on the beach. Maybe the canaries would be a safer bet. I've been to Gran Canaria so would like to go somewhere different. Does anyone know which would be the best option with a baby?

To get dd's passport photo (at about 3 weeks) I knelt on the floor and lifted her up to the right height using a muslin to cover my hands. She did have very good head control though which made it easier. I used one of those booths where you can preview and retake as required.

DD's passport is ridiculous. It was taken aged 2 days in the hospital The hospital photographer did a special offer on them f you bought one of their sets. She is now 20 months old and it looks nothing like her. To be honest it never did! Could be any child. I do think it is a silly idea about baby's needing passports.

I don't think Feb is beach weather in Cyprus, although it would be sunny and you could sit out for lunch (with a cardi maybe). It would be far nicer than here. You might get a lucky week and it be hotter. Def not swimming in sea weather. Canaries will be warmer.

February will not be particulary warm - DH is Cypriot and tells me it is more like British Autumn, so better than here at any rate!

DS2 had his passport picture taken at 2 weeks, it does look a bit daft now he is 3! If you go to a proper camera/photography shop they are pretty experienced - DS was put on a sheep skin and lay almost flat for his, only cost £5.

Cyprus is beautiful ( I am biased though) but you'd be better off going somewhere else for sun in February. We're taking the kids end of May this year.

Oh dear, have just booked a week in Paphos for Feb half term. Tried to find a reasonably priced holiday for that week in the canaries and couldn't. I still fancied Cyprus so just sort of booked on the spur of the moment. The apartments I've got look quite nice but am definately worried about the weather since I've read all the other replies. Too late now, so I'll just keep my fingers crossed it doesn't rain

I spent Christmas in Paphos 2 years ago, on the whole it was lovely and warm, we sat out on the beach on a few occasions and even went swimming - the water was a bit nippy (for want of a better word!!) but no worse than the coast of england in the summer (and a lot cleaner). Ds (then 3) spent many hours jumping in and out of the waves!

However my brother then went to Paphos 2 weeks later, and had rain and winds.

So basically I think it is changeable - that's everso helpful isn't it??
