Somewhere warm in October with a 18 mo

We have a week in October and want to go somehwere for a bit of late summer sunshine. Open to all different options but have a morbid fear of anything that remotely resembles a large resort with kids clubs. We usually self cater so would normally err in that direction but if there was an easy way of doing a hotel with a one year old I'd like to know!

Don't want to fly any further than 4 hours tops.

canary islands are warm at that time

If you want quiet and relaxing i can recommend the Arenas Del Mar hotel in El Medano Tenerife.
Very small resort, lots of little spanish places to eat, mostly locals and surfers.

Hotel is gorgeous, very quiet, all inclusive, great food, on the beach. Weve been 2 years in a row now. We went in January, it was 25.

Although you cant go wrong in any canaries, weather is all year round.
Puerto Mogan in Gran Canaria is fab.

Portugal's nice but the sea is cold!

Crete is lovely inb October and the sea should be warm as it's been heated up all summer!

Formentera will be perfect in October. Most tourists will be gone, and you'll be left with the most beautiful beaches, shallow and crystal clean sea, cycling lanes... forget the Canary islands, trust me Smile

Tenerife - this will be our third year in a row, much nicer than it has a reputation for being provided you go to the right resorts. Temperature is lovely in October as well mid twenties and not too windy in the evening. We have stayed in Regency Country Club which is self catering apartments based around a complex - lovely but quite far from the beach although they have a shuttle bus and the Iberostar Anthelia which is a large hotel so may not be for you.
Our friends stayed in the El Beryl appartments which are on the beach front and a great location if you want to be close to a couple of nice restaurants and have access to a pool.

We have also been to the South of France in October, reasonably warm but not sunbathing weather and La Manga in Spain was blinkin freezing when we went in October - apparently we were unlucky with the weather.

It depends on how much you want to, or can afford to spend.

The Canaries are expensive to get there & the hotels are expensive.
Also all the bars & restaurants put the prices up over the winter period as it's their busiest time.

I've been to the Costa del Sol 5 times now & as it's the closest to Africa from the Spanish mainland, the weather has always been hot.
Plus you can get a cheap low cost there.
Cheers

We went to scicily in November with our 18 month old and are planning to return next year with him and his tiny brother :) Had a fantastic time as it was warm but not too hot, deserted beaches and the locals were so friendly and so so nice to our wee one. We stayed mostly in Cefalu which was perfect, plently of restuarants but not too touristy at that time of year. A lovely old town and plenty of shops and two lovely beaches. Can reccomend an appartment right by the beach if you are interested, will just have to do a search for it again.
Only problem is they do not seem to believe in comfy beds over there.
Oh the flights not too long and quite cheap also.

The Greek islands season tends to end in October but it's still warm. We had a fabulous week in Kos. It was quiet but most things were still open

I've been to the Algave in October a few times and it has always been great.

Malta. We went last year the first week in October 23-24 degrees every day, lots to do and English is one of the official languages (important for us due to DS's food allergies). Can't wait to go back!
