all of a sudden i think this sounds great

all my life have hated the thought of disney, but read a brilliant write-up in a paper and it sounded amazing.

just want to hear from others who have been, which hotel did you stay in, how much did everything cost etc

thanks

I wouldn't call it amazing by any stretch but it is fun and the kids get swept away, so best if you view it through their eyes and indulge. We've stayed in the Sequoia Lodge and Newport Bay which are the mid price range and have pools (not that we had time to indulge). It isn't cheap though, despite the hype of free child places etc, and food is very patchy, mediocre at best, and overpriced. Highlight for us last time was Buffalo Bill's show (if you can set the ethical issues aside) .

thanks for that. now youve completely put me off again.

My best friend has just had a week there. Similar to you, she hadn't previously wanted to go etc....and she loved it. She has 3 dc, 6, 2 and 1. Sorry, don't know what she paid but she said it was worth every penny.

I am seeing her later, will try and pick her brains for you!

HTH.

nailpolish · 20/02/2006 14:27

that would be great clayhead. interesting to see your friend has v. young children, my dd's are 3 and 1.

I went with DS1 and DD but without DH and loony toddler last summer and it was like a weird spa. I had early nights, barely touched alcohol, ate loads of salad cos otherwise it was pizza or burgers, hotel had Disney Channel and no CNN, there were no newspapers unless you walked to the station...
You could regenerate vast swathes of southern Europe by investing that sort of money in sustainable eco-tourism. But that's probably not the point. DS1 and DD loved every second and are determined to go again when DS2 is bigger.

I went last summer with DS, (then 5.5) We had a brilliant time! We were staying at a friends house in the city and just got the train to EuroDisney, really easy, cheap and direct! Hotels on site I think are very expensive! We took our own food because again I think food on site is expensive - it also meant we could eat what we want, when we want, where we want with no queues. We only did one area of the park but it was more than enough for one day and we both had a fantastic day. I sound like a real cheapskate now (especially since I got free tickets from a friend who worked in the Disney Store) but it is possible to do this on the cheap and I really recommend it. TBH before I went I wasn't too sure but now I am a total convert.

Blandmum · 20/02/2006 14:34

We are goig, but taking the cheap option of camping in a site 9 KM from eurodisney. It will cost us 120 euros for 4 nights for the four of us!

We have been before and the kids enjoyed it an so did we. this time we are planning 2 visits to disney, sandwiched with a kiddie oriented trip to Paris in the middle as a teat for dh and me!

TBH it will go over the head of your 1 year old. We took dd when she was 3.5 and she was utterly enchanted. Ds didn't think much of it when we took him at the same age. This time dd will be 9 and ds 6. I'll be interested to see how they enjoy it this time. TBH the high sopt for ds was getting there on the metro each dat!

nailpolish · 20/02/2006 14:37

i think travel for us would be quite expensive, as we are in NE scotland, and im a bit wary of the food, but i can almost see dd's faces, which would (hopefully) be worth it. how long does the train take from london?

oops didn't mena to come across sop negatively ! ds and dd want to go back this summer but think 3 is the earliest they really appreciate it other than as an extended Disney store or day out at a fairground. dd was almost 3 last time we went and the characters freaked her out , apart from the princesses.

nailpolish · 20/02/2006 14:39

mb thats interesting. would much prefer that option fo accomodation! we went to paris for our honeymoon and would dearly love to go back

mb, do you mind me asking where you are staying? i take you are driving there? (dont know if i could take a car the entire journey for us)

god i hate living so far away from civilisation!

This is where we are going

camping international les jablines

As recomended by UKcampsite the 'mumsnet' of the camping world!

Looks rather fab, and I wish , in some ways that we could have more time there to enjoy the lake etc, but after 4 days we are heading for the coast.

nailpolish · 20/02/2006 14:42

thank you for the link

OP posts:
Blandmum · 20/02/2006 14:45

and yes, we are drining, or rather dh is driving!

Cahnnel tunnel to Jablines is about 4 hours. Jablines to the Vendee is about 6 hours. We are going back via normandy and staying in a wonderful farm B and B

Total cost of the holiday is arounf £850 for the four of us. That is including the channel tunnel crossing, 4 nights at Jablines, 9 nights in the Vendee and the b and b on the way home....oh and 2 days tickets into Disney . Doesn't include prtrol, food, spending moey or the trip to Paris.

But good value I think!

Feistybird · 20/02/2006 14:47

We went with a 3yo and a 1yo. 4 days is more than enough. Food in parks is crap, food in restaurants and hotels better. V.much a kids holiday, def not a holiday for parents.

We stayed at the New York (I think) and it's fine, on the Disney complex, close to the park, but not in it.

Kids loved it so we went again the following year. Kids loved it again, but I was disneyed out.

nailpolish · 20/02/2006 14:48

that is good value for money mb

Ok we have been every year for the last 4 or five years. We camp about 1hr 20mins away at bernie riviera absolute brilliant site. And every year we say we are not doing disney this year but always end up doing it. If you go in May then holiday prices are cheaper. The weather has always been brilliant in May and this year 3 weeks hols - caravan and 3 adult tickets and 1 child into disney is costing us £650 with keycamp.

Havwe stayed at davey crocket ranch and that was really nice if you can cope with going to a little cabin in the mornings to get your coissants and coffee.

nailpolish · 20/02/2006 16:41

wow that is great value for money too

Blandmum · 20/02/2006 16:45

but mine was in the peak of peak season

janinlondon · 21/02/2006 11:49

We went to DP in the summer with two day park hopper tickets. To be honest we kind of ran out of things to do by mid afternoon on the second day. Is it just me? What do people find to occupy them for three or four days? We went on all the rides - some up to three times. Sorry for the hijack - just wondered if we're somehow weird?

Blandmum · 21/02/2006 11:53

We did three days, and tbh the third day was overkill. This time we will go for two, with a day in Paris in between.

SleepyJess · 21/02/2006 11:54

Yes it was lovely. Didn't want to come home. Wanted to LIVE there.. right in the castle!!

alliep30 · 21/02/2006 11:57

we've been. i loved it and not ashamed to say. just watching ds made it better

janinlondon · 21/02/2006 12:04

Thank you MartianBishop. I was starting to wonder if we were the strangest family in Christendom.

alliep30 · 21/02/2006 12:05
