2 adults, 2 teens - would it be feasible to travel around la without a car? Main areas we want to see are Hollywood, malibu, Venice, Santa monica, universal studios etc

I live in LA. A week is a good amount of time depending how long you want Ro spend at Disney. You def need a car but if you stay in Venice you can bus (or bike or walk) to and within Santa Monica easily and cheaply so don't new to use the car every day. The bus is totally fine, I use it several times a week to get to the beach but wouldn't use it for long journeys. Don't miss the Getty, it's beautiful and 20min drive from Santa Monica non rush hour - us the side streets in rush hour, don't touch the freeway!

If you drive to SF you can take the 5 freeway in 6.5hours then come back the leisurely scenic route along the PCH, taking in Monterey bay aquarium, Santa Cruz, stay overnight on the Big Sur. Would def recommend San Diego too if you have time. There is a lot more to do and see in LA than just Disney, I'd personally forgo Hollywood for Venice, Santa Monica, Echo Park, Griffith Park, the farmers markets, Rose Bowl Flea Market if you happen to be there 2nd Sunday of the month, tons to do in Pasadena and (again) the Getty

The beach in Venice is nice (think Baywatch! I was there just today) and there's a lot of 'action' going on on the boardwalk. However, it's a bit 'Brighton' in terms of the shorefront shops - fast food and tattoo parlours.

I think the actual beach is nicest in ocean park, which is between Santa Monica and Venice - I think it gets slightly less footfall so is cleaner. And the beach communities further south (redondo, manhattan and hermosa) are lovely
