Hello,

Due to fly Spain-Holland on Saturday, will be first time with either child. DS is 4 and DD 1. Any top tips for me? We're arriving late ish both ways...8pm on the way out ad 11pm the way back.

Thanks.

We are off to Majorca in a few weeks with DD's 2 and 3.5.

The same as you in that this will be the girls first flight. They are very excited!
We have loaded up DH and my ipads with kids apps so im sure that will keep them busy for 99% of the flight, along with looking out the window at the clouds etc.
we deliberately chose flights at times that they (shouldnt!) be tired which have cost us double!

If your travelling in the evening then you might be lucky and they might sleep! :)

I'd recommend taking a dark blanket or something. When my DD was about 14 months we flew in the evening. She was very tired and we thought we'd get an easy time of it, but she couldn't sleep because it was so light on the plane, and so cried and cried. We ended up making a little tent over her with a blanket.

Other than that, I have always taken a little bag full of different little things, some familiar to them and some new. This has always kept them nice and distracted!

Good luck!

Lots of snacks and fun things.
Toilet trip before boarding the plane, si they don't announce that they're bursting just as the plane prepares ti take off.
go to the pound shop to buy little pads/pens/toys, and produce them one by one in between snacks.
It won't be a long flight, surely? By the time you've taken off and the seatbelt signs go off, you'll be nearly there! Wink

It's apparently 3 hours, although I suspect it'll only really be 2.5 and they've just factored in the extra time so then they can be "early" and get good stats Iyswim. I'm not so worried about DS actually as I think the excitement of the plane will keep him amused. More worried about DD getting overtired and squealing. Aso just worried cos we've never flown with children before...fear of the unknown!

Don't worry - they'll both be excited and if u have surprises along the way, all the better. Ds1 first flew when he was 2.5 and just smiled the entire flight, and was thrilled when we bought him a toy plane on the flight. Simple pleasures.
