port de pollenca experts, please-- which hotel would you choose?

I'm trying to book a last-minute trip to Port de Pollenca for us plus two littles ones (3.5 and 5 months), based largely on its good press on this site-- have never been to Mallorca or any of the Spanish beach resorts.

Basically, there's not much available anymore, and I've come up with two options- wondering if anyone has any experience of these places in particular or, knowing Port de Pollenca in general, could let me know what they think of their locations/specs?

Valentin Puerto Azul Suite Hotel

and Hoposa Villa Concha Apts

We'd like a hotel rather than a self-catering place (don't want the hassle of cooking this time), a suite than than a single room, and proximity to the beach. Not fussed about kids club or entertainment, but would like a good family vibe. Both of these are three star. What do you think? Hard for me to tell if they're really near the beach and the boardwalk people mention...Does three star mean much (is it about the food, the facilities)? Sorry to sound like such an idiot, but I've never done this before and don't know what to think!

Have a look at the website puertopollensa.com for lots of information about the resort.

I haven't stayed at either of those accommodations, but three star is usually fine. Star rating is usually inclusive of everything, bear in mind that if very close to the beach there may be no pool, especially by pine walk and the pedestrian area. Thomsons are usually good at giving distances to beach, resort centre etc in their descriptions. It is easy to get around with a buggy as it is very flat.

Have just had a brainwave and dug out an old map of the town and it has accommodation listed! Puerto Azul is about three streets back from the front/beach (north,) easily walkable to there and centre. Villa Concha is in the other direction and same distance from the beach from what I can see, and similar distance into the centre. Both seem to be listed as aparthotels, which if I'm not wrong means you have the choice of s/c, or b+b, h/b or f/b.

There are so many lovely restaurants in the resort it would be a shame to commit yourself to your evening dinner in the one place, especially if you don't find it to your taste and you've paid up front. Just because you have a s/c apartment doesn't mean you have to cook! You could just get things for breakfast from the supermarket, and eat out for the other meals. It does mean you can have a quiet coffee in the apartment while the DC sleep in the afternoon.

Puerto Pollensa is lovely. I would say the Puerto Azul is in a better location as it is very near Pine Walk, a pretty promenade by the beach.

I would read the reviews on Tripadvisor and make your decision and book quickly, both do get good reviews on TA.

Enjoy.

I've stayed at the Puerto Azul several times when it was a Thomson Superfamily property and we loved it. It's a five min walk from the beach and the promenade - turn right and you have all the restaurants and shops or turn left and you are on the Pine Walk which is gorgeous. About 15mins walk along there takes you to coffee at the Hotel Illa d'Or right on the water!

The food at teh Puerto Azul was fine. Nothing that amazing but we thought it was good value for money. I think they still have the old Superfamily facilities for kids like the playground and sandpit. There are some nice restaurants in Puerto Pollensa but we did find it very expensive to eat out last time. Hope that helps a bit!

I've been in the villa concha pool and it's about 5 minutes walk from the beach and 15 from the town , nice walk along the seafront though. I know the pools had a refurb this year and think it has slides and stuff which could be good. We're going to puerto pollensa next week and staying at the flora which has good reviews.

thank you so much, everyone - this is really really useful. We've had to put our trip on hold for the moment as I might be going to the States to be with my mother for heart surgery, but in that case we'll hope to do the trip later in the summer, and all this info is great.

We used to own an apartment nr the Villa Concha, its only a 3 min walk down the road to the best part of Pollensa`s beach. A nice walk past restaurants and shops into the centre is literaly only 5 mins. Between the Concha and the beach is a nice shady play park too. Wish I was going back, we went there for over 10 years, adore the place.
