at york, [national railway museum] it was greay ds loved it ,bur it cost a fortune, if anyone else goes take a picnic, we had two teas a pop and a bag of crips it cost £6,10, and out side we had a hot dog, cheese burger, and a veggie burger ans that cost £6,70, you normaly dont pay to get in, but if you wanted to see thomas it was £7.50 ad £5.50 ch.

but i will say to see ds face when he had a ride on percy, and toby, was well worth it

We've got some great pics from the West Somerset Railway one two years ago: it really is expensive isn't it? And we remembered the picnic too! Would still recommend though.

CaptainCavemansMummy · 17/02/2006 20:43

Has anyone been to Butterley? Same sort of thing with Thomas but also v expensive. Was thinking of taking ds for his 2nd bday. Assume it's not the same place you've been to? (Butterley is either north notts or south yorks)

Gingerbear · 17/02/2006 20:50

we went with DD to York last year. Thankfully, she has now gone past the Thomas fettish.

DominiConnor · 18/02/2006 13:09

As I understand it there is a "travelling Thomas". Can't be cheap to lug it round, especially since we saw him on the Isle of Wight.

Must be said, I've paid more money for less good entertainment for the kids.

Nbg · 18/02/2006 13:12

I really wanted to get dd there before it finished.

She would have loved it.

Could have probably got in free too as my friend is a PR ass there.

Doesn't it finish next week?

oooggs · 18/02/2006 13:21

We went to Buckfastleigh last May Day and it was FANTASTIC. Hoping to go again this year as ds now 2 will appriciate it more.

trice · 18/02/2006 13:24

Don't forget the £7 to park and £5 for a photo. And the extra £3 they add to all the Thomas toys for the day. Ds loves Thomas but I always feel well and truly ripped off when we get back from a Thomas day.

Nemo1977 · 18/02/2006 13:30

we took ds to one of these in bury last oct and it wasnt expensive at all!!! No parking fees , you didnt have to pay unless you wanted the ride on thomas which was £10 an adult and £7 kids. Drinks etc were normal prices but we had taken a picnic. they also had bouncy castel, puppet shows, loads of other trains etc it was fantastic!

trace2 · 18/02/2006 15:42

nbg yes it finishs next week,

chatee · 19/02/2006 07:02

anyone going to llangollen this week?
could you report back please....ds would love this(and it's his birthday too)so might make the mammoth journey ....

bobbybobbobbingalong · 19/02/2006 07:18

At what age do they start demanding the real thing? Ds says he prefers diesels so that's cheaper and easier.

Ds did get distressed when he saw a double decker bus though - "Bulgy's face has fallen off mummy"

chatee We've been to a couple at Llangollen.
If its like the ones we've been to - Toby is parked up & you can stick your head in & have a look. Thomas goes back & forth over a short distance (ideal for kids !) and then they have a couple of other engines - making a further trip ~ 30 mins & 1 hour journeys or thereabouts. They also do small 'stories' 'Leaves on the line' was on - very low tech but kids love it !

chatee · 23/02/2006 15:45

well we went to llangollen and we all had a fab time....ds was in thomas heaven and choo chooed all the way home...

longwaytogo · 23/02/2006 16:28

we went toLlongollen last sat. Kids loved it. £20 for the six of us. Thomas and Diesel did a race, went on 40 min trip in the morning on Daisy and hour and half in the afternoon on another. Twys were no more expensive than anywhere else. Flags were £1 in the station and 75p in the town. We took our own picnic.

Parking was about £2

trace2 · 23/02/2006 16:36

that sounds a lot cheaper than york one

Didn't pay for our 1yr old and 3 yr old. So had a ticket for two adults and two children. Just wonder if it's Thomas who sets the fees so to speak or the railway network.

JanH · 23/02/2006 17:26

Days out with Thomas at Embsay, near Skipton, at Easter, Spring Bank and August Bank. £7 per head inc gift for children.

Large free car park at Embsay station. No idea how much for refreshments or toys, but there is a picnic area.

JanH · 23/02/2006 17:36

£13/£8 Watercress Line
no prices given for Bluebell Line
£10/£5 Forest of Dean
£9.50 at Didcot
£10/£6.50 Colne Valley

I guess the lines fix their own prices
