Can anyone recommend any soft play centres near Taunton or Bridgwater?

I'm going away with family in a couple of weeks to a rented cottage about half hour from Taunton. We're looking for some things to do near Taunton or Bridgwater if the weather isn't very good.

Any recommendations? 9 Children aged from 1 to 8.

Thanks in advance

Hello I live in Taunton!

Right there is a big indoor soft play area called A.jz which is on Bindon Road in Taunton. Kids love it.

I would really recommend Puxton Park which is just up the m5 from Bridgewater loads to do there and stuff to keep all ages happy.

Wooky Hole is not far and is good fun for a day out.

Fyne Court is nice for a country walk out on the Quantock Hills (and its free!)

Hestercombe House is also lovely for a nice walk and look around (but is not free!)

All of these you should be able to find on google.

Oh and just thought Weston Super Mare is close as well and lots to do there, niceish beach, aquarium and hugh pier which has recently been revamped.

Thanks girliefriend - really appreciate the response.

We're actually out in the sticks south of Williton and I think Taunton is the closest town so looking at that. I looked at the website for Ajz, but the soft play didn't look that big - gave the impression it just had a play car, play house in it - almost like it was just for the little ones. Would it be suitable for the older ages?

I'll have a look at your other suggestions - we're struggling to find much which isn't a long drive away, which isn't much fun for 9 children!

Haha that picture doesn't do it any favours, that is a picture of the baby toddler area!! The main bit is huge, its inside a massive warehouse...

Williton is quite close to Dunster and Minehead, Dunster has a big castle which the older kids might like... and there is a nice beach at Dunster is you like the wild and empty type!

There is Butlins in Minehead!!! Kids will absolutely love it, the swimming pool is good there and again a nice ish beach.

girliefriend · 07/05/2012 21:07

All of the places I've mentioned are within 40mins max of Taunton.

iloveholidays · 07/05/2012 21:08

Ah, excellent thanks.

Yes, we're south between Dunster and Williton. We've got an outdoor pool at the house, but weather isn't looking great so looking at options.

Thanks for the recommendation for the beach though - men and kids are being evicted for 1-2 hours one morning so this might be good for them.

Can you get into Butlins if you're not staying there?

Sorry for all the questions!! :)

Thanks again - really appreciate it.

Yes you can have a day pass to Butlins, its not cheap but fairly easy just to wander in and get away without paying and I expect if you look on the website there might be some sort of family discount.

I like the dunster beach, it is not much to look at but loads of space and great for kids to let of steam.

Lyme Regis is not far either and lovely and quaint for a day out, nice sandy beach and dramatic cob to walk down although that can be quite stressful with kids !!!

girliefriend · 07/05/2012 21:36

Also there is a steam train that runs between minehead and Taunton which kids tend to love as feels like a 'proper' train should!

Taunton also has a Brewsters with an indoor play area, food is o.kay and cheap as chips and nice to be able to eat in peace as kids play in the kids area!!!

in bridgwater there is 'the willows' softplay which is Not Bad.

Berrow (sands) has a huge beach which is great for kids, it's muddy but there is so much space, and there's a good playground on the way past.

If you have childfree time then Clarkes village is worth a visit. Loads of outlet shops, a large Clarkes factory shop which is v good for school shoes.

Narrowboat · 07/05/2012 21:46

Clarkes Village is in Street.

And in Shepton mallet (my dear) there is a Mulberry factory shop.

I don't even like shopping but feel I should mention them.

The Quantocks is very picturesque too....

Great - thank you so much, this has been really helpful.

We've been struggling to work out what to do and the picture of AJZ definitely put us off, although we did see that one at Brewsters which we thought might work.

Fingers crossed its boiling hot and we can play in the pool all weekend!! :)

Thanks again.

Tropiquaria is definitely worth a visit and v close to Williton. There are 2 great pirate ships to play on outdoors, so best for a fine (ish) day.

stinkymice · 07/05/2012 22:09

When are you going? Watchet has a festival in August which would be worth a visit.

iloveholidays · 07/05/2012 22:15

Thanks

We going in 2 weeks, should be good just hope the weather is okay!!

I'll look into your suggestions.

If its tipping down ajz will be fine I promise - don't let that picture put you off, the only problem might be that on a rainy day it will be packed!
