Vendee in August?

Just wondering what the weather is like? Is there much to do with DCs aged 10, 8 & 2? How expensive is it when you get there to eat out etc?

We've seen a lovely Canvas holidays site (a few actually) and we are tempted, also the best ferry crossing, St Malo, Roscoff?

August is generally hot, but can get stormy. Much better weather than Brittany though.

IMO the southern side is better than the north (which gets very crowded). Round La Tranche sur Mer is Very good.

Loads to to for that age range. Don't miss a trip to the Puy du Fou it is Fantastic.

St Malo is the best crossing, but also the most expensive. Caen is better than Roscoff.

Eating out is getting cheaper by the day as the Euro weakens. You can get 3 course menus for about 15? with kids menus at about 7?.

We stayed at camping Acapulco in St jean de Monts a few years ago which was lovely - lots ot do x

we went to la garangeoire - north vendee. best site in 10 plus years of this type of holiday. canvas pitches especially good, plus rep. hot during day and very cold at night - put gas fire on one morning in aug. locals said this was usual. south brittany weather stats are pretty good as well and we much prefer beaches and towns/countyside to vendee which we found a bit bland. puy du fou - excellent my kids moaned at the thought and then loved the whole day - a real highlight.

we always do the st malo crossing as its now part of our hol, though was a bit of a treck down on the roads. we like the bars/entertainment etc. don't do on a sat as all the french travel then and long queues at tolls.

I go every August and the weather is either really warm ie 35 degrees or cloudy/rainy and 20 degrees. It's a great place for kids, flat so you can cycle and lost of great beaches interspersed by rocky costal areas.
Best ferry crossing is St Malo. It's only about 2.5 hours to Nantes and after that is Caen with a 4-5 hour drive if you take a leisurely stop.
Lots of things to do. Food is about 8-12 euros for a 2/3 course meal depending on where you eat and how touristy it is. Seafood is cheap and you can get it straight off the boats at some of the local ports.
First time we went was with canvas and we had a good time. The campsites will give you lots of local things to do and places to see. They are very geared up for tourists in the vendee in the summer as its popular with the French. Try not to travel on the roads round Nantes though on the first Saturday in August. It's grid locked.

We have been for the past 3 years - 2 years of mostly warm weather, odd cooler cloudy day. Last year was rubbish - wet, cold. Each time late August, Southern vendee. Love the area, when the weather is good it's perfect - not too hot - but after washout last year we are going south this year!

We woukd love to go further south but will wsit until DS is a bit older. He's only 2 and any more than 3ish hours would be too long in a car for him, not fun for anyone.

Thank you for the info, really helpful.
