Brittany Ferries - outside/inside cabins

I think I'm being a bit stupid but what's the difference between the outside and inside cabins when booking an overnight crossing? The outside ones seem to sell out more quickly than the inside ones - is that because they're cheaper, or conversely because they're better?

Outside cabins are usually more expensive IME, they sell more quickly because they have windows and are easier to access. An inside cabin is perfectly adequate - I certainly wouldn't pay more for an outside cabin.

I'd go for the cheapest. I would have assumed outside cabins to be more expensive so you live and learn.
You aren't going to be on long enough to be bothered about views and windows I shouldn't think.

Inside cabins are fine but a bit claustrophobic if you're that way inclined. They may be down a passageway & it all feel a bit dark & enclosed. The outside ones have a bit of natural light although the portholes are small & high up (ime) so you can't really sit & contemplate the view. But it gives the impression of larger, brighter & less closed in.

I find the inside cabins very claustophobic so I always get an outside one. Just being able to look out makes me feel better.

Thanks all! This is exactly the info I was hoping for. I love MN(etters).

I found the inside cabin to be very hot and stuffy, compared to the outside one (not that the window opens or anything).

You take up your cabin after dark, and can see out as you approach the port, but they turf you out about an hour from landing, so you don't get to watch marvellous sea views from your private space.

It is just as easy to access and outside cabin as an inside one - they are on two sides of the same corridor.

The outside cabin we had had a big square window, not a porthole. That might be a factor of which deck you are on, but I think ours was the first level up from the car decks.

I'd go for the cheapest. Especially for overnight when you're just sleeping in it.

We had an inside cabin in the Pont Aven. Changed it from an outside when I read that some of the portholes look out onto the wraparound deck rather than actually out to sea. Taking a stroll round the wraparound deck you can indeed see into some portholes so very glad I changed. Cheaper too. Save the money and spend it in the lovely buffet restaurant if you're on the same ship - an absolute bargain (given the number of langoustines I ate) and deeeeeeeelicious!
