We have just booked to go to Disneyland Paris this Friday staying at Newport Bay for 2 nights(special offer - free kids & 25% off ) I have searched the other threads but just wondered if anyone else had stayed at Newport Bay and if so what they thought of it. And also aby tips / where you would recommend eating with a 4.5 & a 3 yr old?

I am very excited.....

Honestly, I though the food was aweful everywhere we ate - sorry to be a downer. I would not have high hopes at all. The park was fun - hotel was fun (we were at a different one though) and you can eat at any of the hotels.

Have fun!

I thought the hotel was really nice. Food was ok and I likes the restaurant's seating arrangement much nicer then the santa fe and cheyeene.

Would advise you to take carton of drinks as this can work out expensive and I found the kids were always wanting drinks. The hot chocolate was really nice we had this on room service. HOPE THIS HELP AND HAVE A GOOD TIME! larsxx

btw have you book a disney breakfast, really good and get to see the characters!!! chances to take pics! If you are going to do this, try doing this with your travel rep works out cheaper usually this time of year kids go free for the breakfast if with adults. Lars xx

Will def take drinks for DD's. I was told that they search you on the way in to make sure you haven't gor any food or drink of your own - is this true?

No, they search the bags, but don't say anything about packed food or drink. We went last year, and had hired a car, so used to buy our own food from the nearby supermarket - hated the Disney food, and loved buying proper french food from the fab shopping centre. We were there for a week though, and travelled around a fair bit.

lars · 13/02/2006 22:51

Not had that expereince, bag checks for security reasons, but drinks are ok, some people took the rolls and ham at breakfast for their snacks. Eating out is expensive but in any theme park you will find this the same. larsxx

I have stayed at the Newport, breakfast is the same as at the other ones, i.e. a continental buffet. Shame no sausage, fried agg and black pudding .

They supposedly don't let in pack lunches, but in the unlikely event you get turned away with you food there is a left luggage place beside the turnstiles on the right hand side and lockers in the middle. If you come out but intend to go back in get your hand stamped.

Newport is the furthest away of the disney hotels its not that far but you would be best to take watrproofs or anything else and leave in lockers to save treking back.

Know your kids weight in kilos, my son was unwell and I tried getting pain killers from the medical centre, they wanted to know his weight in kilos, I didn't have a clue.

You will usually get in earlier to the park as you are a disney resident make use of this time to go on the busy rides like Peter Pan.

We didn't bother going back to hotel for dinner we stayed in the parks and saw the light parade and the fireworks. Disney can't do fast food, it ain't fast and i am pretty sure it ain't food. In the warmer weather it is best to get rolls from the vendors.

Any more questions and i am happy to help.

We staye in the Newport Bay in Dec 04 and it was lovely. the rooms were nice and spacious and had a mini bar which we emptied and put our own cartons of drink, kids milk, WINE,etc in! No-one said anything! decent bathroom too. Breakfast was nice , restaurant was excellent although we only had breakfast there. Bar is hyper expensive. Pool grogeous. Shop sold wine, milk etc so you don't have to worry about that although there is a petrol garage near the Santa Fe which is cheaper! We took our own cartons, snacks etc as we knew it would be dear for kids drinks and nibbles and we did take some of the rolls etc from breakfat for lunch but it was too cold - we needed hot food! Fast food areas in park are CR*P but a friend of mine went last montha nd she ate there alot with her son and said it was just the same as Mcd's back home (no comment!!!). We ate in the Rainforest cafe which the kids loved and the food was lovely. We had to sit near the monkeys both nights of course! best to book tho as it can get busy. Also ate at the German Bavaraian restaurant - King Ludwig something or other cos we had a discout voucher and the steak I had was lovely. Kids ate all their meals in both restaurants. We used to have a light lunch, eat dinner early and get to the parade. then back to bed - the Newport is the furthest away but there is a wee train thing which takes you round if kids are tired. Once kids were in bed we'd open a bottle of duty free wine, dh had brought his portable dvd which he watched while I chilled out and read lots of books (and dank iwne of course! - Only thing to go missing out of mini bar!!!!)
There is a steeam train with the station near the entrance - good way to see round the park when you arrive.
When you buy anything at the shop you can charge it to your disney card and it gets delivered to the hotel in the evening for you. Saves carrying.
We were never searched going in nor out of parks.
Enjoy! We're going abck this Dec and I can't wait! Kids are hyper (2.5 and nearly 4!!)

we stayed at newport bay at xmas time and it is very nice had a meal in there restaurant which was nice but our kids preferred cafe mickey which is in the village not park, and all characters dance with the kids it was very good, they serve pizza and pastas a little pricey but not too bad, annettes diner v v v expensive and not very nice basically burgers and chips. first time we went we stayed in the newyork which is great too, you will have a fab time. i braved it last year and done florida i think i luv disney more than kids, and dh is thinking on booking again but for this christmas.

diddle · 16/02/2006 11:14

mcmum - we're thinkin gof going to florida for xmas this year too, can't wait we're big kids ourselves, don't have any kids yet. we're going for us.

Disneyland Paris is good fun, the park is good, but be prepared to queue for rides. Newport Bay is a long trek from the entrance so definitly take your essentials with you and get a locker, although we stayed in the santa Fe which was much further than the newport.

alliep30 · 16/02/2006 11:16

we stayed at the santa fe, which is the cheapest deal you can get... I agree food was pretty samey, but for a few days didn't bother us. Room was clean, and we spent minimal time in it so can't fault it!!! It was fantastic

mcmum · 16/02/2006 17:40

diddle,

log onto to 1stfororlando.com we hired house from them for 350 per week and it was fantastic own pool 3 bedrooms etc they helped us with car hire and everything we stayed at indian ridge, and flew with first choice direct from newcastle, unfortunately they have stopped from newcastle this year, but have checked flights with virgin for four from gatwick on 28th dec was just under 2000 which is very good, got loads of top tips for florida shout if you need any,

Speeha · 16/02/2006 20:42

Thanks for all your advice.

Am now nearly packed with a mountain of snacks, drinks, buggy plus buggyboard (for lazy 4.5 yr old!), guidebook, waterproofs, etc etc ...

Hoping it's not too wet and we have a fab time.
