So does no one on a waiting list have travel insurance then???

Am off to mainland Spain in a month with the family.

Am trying to get travel insurance. In january I was referred by my GP to Gynae due to spotting/bleeding between periods. I am still waiting for a date (GP chasing them today). It seems as I dont have a name for the condition behind this no one will cover me.

The kick in the teeth is - its not happend since I went to my GP and suspect at 39yo it maybe my age!!

Anyway - obviously I can get cover but not for this which is OK but was wondering what people in my situation do. Does every single person on a waiting list to see any kind of specialist just not get cover for their condition then??? Or are there insurance companies even more special than the ones that do pre existing medical cover that may cover this?

I'm sure there are specialist firms out there. Make sure you have your european health card with you. This entitles you to free emergency treatment in spanish health service hospitals. Make sure that they don't take you to a private hospital, I have heard of people with massive medical bills, after being taken by ambulance to private hospitals, purely because they were british and it was presumed they would have insurance.

Thank you for that advice! I have an EHIC somewhere! Time to dig it out I think.

I have been looking for specialist companies but not getting very far atm.

EIHC's do expire, so make sure yours is up to date.

Can you not subscribe to a travel insurance and exclude the condition?

I have an annual multi-trip policy and last year had 3 benign moles removed from my leg. My friend is a dermatologist and advised it as a preventive measure. When my renewal came up and I had to disclose it, I was allowed to renew at no extra cost excluding anything relating to the 3 moles, which I did. The 3 moles are gone and can't cause me any problems! Perhaps you could get a policy on the basis of excluding anything GYN related.

An EHIC is all very well, but health is not the only things covered in travel insurance....

moneysupermarket.com have a special section for travel insurance for people with pre-existing and chronic conditions. Our travel insurance through them was about a fiver more than it would have been as a family without my illness. (About £30 for a week) Specialist insurers were trying to charge me £90!!

My quote was for summer travel in Europe, btw.

We buy an annual family policy - and as I have a blood disorder which led to me getting a DVT a few years ago I obv declare that.

for the first couple of renewals I decided to exclude anything DVT related -which on reflection is a bit daft. I now cover us all fully - and tbh the extra issues only cost about £30 - which is nothing really.

I ise insureandgo - they seem okay. NOt had to claim though -so can't comment on that aspect.
