Solo parent weekend

Looking for a good weekend hideout to take my one DS (aged 7). DH is starting a series of trips overseas which will leave me and DS hanging out a lot and I thought we could spend one of them (not all, obviously!) away.

Done Moonfleet and Woolley Grange as a family - if I could get something similar but obv far less expensive, and perhaps a bit less Boden Catalogue Perfect Family, cos it'll just be us two, then that'd be ideal.

Any ideas?

I have always really enjoyed city breaks with mine. going to London staying in a cheap travelodge and doing the open top bus tour, the free museums the river trip all great. bath is good again stay travelodge and dublin. fancy cardiff but havent made it there yet.

The forbidden corner is brilliant for kids and the area is lovely (North Yorkshire), definitely worth a trip.

Thanks chaps. Funny, I'm a Londoner so never consider doing the city thing but you've got me thinking. Reckon a Bath trip would be great, with some Horrible History background thrown in... Hmmm

York is lovely. If you're a Londoner, you can go up by train from Kings Cross and you don't need a car when you get there. Your DS will love the Railway museum (right next to the station) and it's free! There's the Jorvik Viking museum too, and the Castle museum, plus open top bus tour and river boat trips. Get a cheap hotel or B&B and make a weekend of it. You'll love it'1

Yes MDI, funnily enough I had that as another choice, think he'd love the Yorvik. Thanks!

Would you recommend the Yorvik museum then? I've heard mixed reviews.

MummyDoIt · 29/04/2012 21:12

We enjoyed the Jorvik, nkf. If you decide to go, definitely book your time slot in advance, then you can just walk in and avoid the queues which can be very long.

Jorvik. Sorry. Illiterate post.
