Its going to DS's first trip away to Lanzarote for a wedding. We are staying near Puerto del Carmen. Wondered if anyone would recommend bringing a beach tent (have heard about windy beaches) also DS has multiple allergies, are restaurants in Lanzarote 'allergy clued' up? He can't have gluten, nuts, eggs and cows milk.

Just back from Lanzarote over Easter. It was very windy and we gave the beach a miss.
I took a beach shelter to Fuertaventura last year because I knew it would be windy but the wind was too strong for the tent.
I have no idea about allergies but I did find that most bars we visited plonked a free bowl of nuts on the table, even when we only had coffee.

Thanks secretsquirrels for your feedback. I had a feeling about the wind. Am really worried about sand getting into DS and my nephew's eyes! Good thing you mentioned wind is too strong for tent. We will probably just visit the beach but end up by the pool most days.

I am worried about explaining to restaurant staff about allergies, it is difficult as it is in the UK sometimes.

There are plenty of British run places. You won't get anything authentic or Spanish but you may feel better explaining the problem to a fellow Brit?

In Fuerteventura this year the pop-up beach tents were hopeless, just not up to the wind, but the people who had the ones with poles like this seemed to have no problems at all.

True there will be lots of British run places. At least he can eat chips! And we will be staying in a self catering cottage so I plan on cooking for him most of the time.

Thanks for the tip Biscuitnibbler. The tent you recommended is also reasonable priced.
