Won a holiday with canvas in France! Grin

Wasn't planning on camping again this year, nor any holiday, but really looking forward to it now!

We've been to Paris, Riviera and Provence, so I'm really either thinking either Languedoc-Roussillon or anywhere along the west cost. I want nice beaches, places to visit and good weather! Does the west coast ever get that hot? I have heard things about the vendee, but not really sure!

Anyone been to any really good French sites? Prefer lively and well equipped.

Does it have to be in France? Been with Canvas to a fab site near Venice. The vendee is lovely but the weather isn't always great - we stayed with canvas at camping Acapulco in St jean de Monts which was great and they ahve some fab sites in Brittany. Recently went to Languedoc with Siblu but if you don't fancy the long drive, check local airports and fly drive. Congrats on your win!

they were in a bit of a rush for me to book, so I ended up going for languedoc roussillon. I'm glad I didn't book the Vendee now, really want some sun!

It did have to be France. Italy is lovely, and I love Venice, but we went there the past two summers, so wouldn't have wanted to go there again this year. WIth Languedoc, if we have enough money we may book a few nights around Barcelona first, before driving back to Languedoc Smile I've not been to Spain for few years, and the older two haven't been to Barcelona yet.

where in langedoc? We went to a site near Argeles 2 years ago and it was fab. this one

Chopstheduck · 17/04/2012 20:09

It's in Argeles, but the site is Camping La Sirene. I looked at that one, it does look lovely but a bit small and we wanted a bigger site with a bit more entertainment for the kids. We tend to alternate big day trips with lazier days, and the kids like going to kids clubs or off exploring and making new friends by themselves.

It's a shame that one wasn't bigger tho, since it is right on the beach. It's so nice being able to walk straight out of the van onto a beach or lake.

We have had 2 fabulous holidays at the Dol de Bretagne Canvas site. Amazing facilities for children and adults. Children with us ranged from 2 - 15 in age. Our only comment would be that whilst the journey time is great from the ferry the weather may not always be so guaranteed unless you go further south. Hope you have a fab time when you go. We are fully intending to use Canvas again but this time will try to aim for La Rochelle / Ile de re region as beaches, towns and weather here are fab

we went to La Sirene for the day - pool was big and lovely and loads for the kids to do! There wasn't much enterntainment wise for the kids on our site although we preferred the pool there (except for the big hilly climb to get up to it but the pool and views were stunning) but there's plenty going on at la Sirene including loads of big shows and stuff like that (we were told by some people to get to the bar/stage area VERY early if you want to see the show and get a seat as people camp out hours before) - it looked quite British so your DC will meet loads of English speaking kids. There's a sister site across the road (hippocampe?) which you can use too for pool etc and a bus stop into the resort just outside the entrance.I remember the food being quite expensive there (compared to our site and resort) so you may want to pop into the harbour/port for meals if you're eating out. Your site is a bit far out from the beach/resort but the bus is regular - as is the tourist train and you'll go past plenty of wine caves!! Argeles Plage is tourist tat city although the beach is nice, the port is fab with lots of lovely places to eat and hang out with a drink/ice cream or both! And you can go daily sailing trips to Spain and along the coast.
Have fun!! it's a lovely area -Perpignan iswell worth a visit and you can get the train from Argeles Town (bus and tourist bus/train go to the station).

Thanks, makemineapinot, that's really helpful! We're hoping to drive so shouldn't have any problems getting around, will be looking out for the caves Grin

The Languedoc is great. Fantastic weather and beautiful. If you can bear the long drive to Carcassonne, it is very nice. As is Sete (avoid the nudists at Agde).

Ddidn't know where Argeles is so just had a look. It's a long way down so a trip to Barcelona definitely seems the best bet as my other 2 suggestions look like a very long drive!!

amimagic · 05/05/2012 20:08

We drove to Barcelona from Argeles, we stayed at Bois de Valmerie like Pinot. The drive was dead easy - I think it took about 2.5 hrs from memory.

Argeles area is lovely - would really recommend going to Coulliore , a village just down the coast which is really pretty.

Congrats on your win, am very jealous!!

Ps when we drove to Barcelona, we parked at a park & ride car park on the way in called something like Placa des Glories which was signposted.

You can get buses or tubes from there, and the parking fee used to get you money off the transport tickets.
