Majorca in August with 4 and 2 yr old - too hot?

I was hoping to take advantage of term time holidays but DH is starting a new job and he doesn't want to take time off until August. This has thrown my hopes of a may/june holiday out of the window. I would like to fly from East Midlands and go somewhere warm but not excessively hot. I like the look of majorca would it be suitable?

well for me (and ds's) it would be too hot. Went there a few years back first 2 weeks of Sept and that was almost too hot.
But I'm a bit of a wimp with heat and both me and ds1 have extremely fair skin. Its a bit of a bind having to sit in the shade with the factor 30 coated on all visible parts...

Im thinking it may be too hot for us too!! Any other holiday suggestions, DS is desperate to fly??

How about the Alps? Or if you need beaches, something in N Europe?
I've been pondering this one for when we are stuck with school holidays. I've decided to leave Southern Europe for May and October, and to stick to UK and/or Northern Europe in August (have thoughts of exploring Sweden, Holland, the Baltic....but maybe it will all be too grey and chilly even for me!)

Or, if you are not limited to school holidays, why not wait until Sept when it will be just about right in Southern Europe/Majorca?

I think it wouldbe too hot. I LOVE hot weather and even I found it very hot, I also think hot weather can make children more irritable.

What about Northern France or the west coast of France? - lovely beaches.

I think it all depends on how your children react to heat. My two sons ages 8 and 2 dont mind it. In fact ds2 has been abroad three times in the last 17 months and each time it was at least 80-90 degrees, He just spends most of the day with minimal clothing and plenty of suntan lotion, if he gets too hot we take inside until he cools down a bit.

Like some of the others have said why not wait until September, the holidays are a bit cheaper as it is term time and the weather is slightly cooler.

The South of France is lovely. The weather is warm but not excessively hot in September. We went to Perpignan and had a great time plus it was only an hour and a half flight which was ideal for ds2's first trip on a plane (he was only 11months at the time).

Elliott, we are going to Holland in June for 2weeks so will let you know if its grey or cold. I havent a clue what to epect weather wise so fingers crossed it will be nice.

we went in august two years ago with a 4 year old - far too hot for our liking. we ended up going inside the apartment in the afternoon to keep out of the shade.
I wouldnt go in august again.

I agree with pm, we went to spain end of aug/beg of sept and it wasn't a problem. It was very hot, we had to constantly keep reapplying sun cream and dp and I still burned a little. But the kids loved it, they had no probs at all. They were 5 and 3, and we also had the babies who were 7mnths or so.

Thanks for all advice. DS starts school in September so it will have to be school holiday time. I think the more northern parts of France could be suitable but I'm not sure where to go as there is no way I could contemplate driving that far - dd - makes herself sick because she hates car travel so much. This also seems to rule Cornwall out as we're in Derbyshire so it would be a long journey On previous holidays the car journeys have been dreadful and undone all the relaxing work of the holiday. Other places I have considered are Jersey / Guernsey / Whitby / Anglesey ... I really don't know

You can fly from Blackpool to Bordeaux.

We went to Majorca last September begining of and it was fab - about 25 - 27 and the water was so warm - no one burnt at all and we were with people who are whiter then white and we did not have to apply sun cream as regularly as we did in Cyprus in the summer when it was 34! It was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone with small children - very safe we went to Cala Galdana which is a very safe bay.
