i paid over £140 for it and dont want it wrecked..can get flimsyone from mothercare for £15 but this 'cheap' holiday its getting dearer and dearer, plus a flimsy one might fall apart as much as look at it??

Ryanair damaged by buggy (wich was part of a travel system) and I had signed a disclaimer!

Would go for the cheapy!

littlemissbossy · 06/02/2006 20:07

I'd buy the cheapest (with a sun shade) if I were you - you can always bin it when you get home

SwimmingUpHillThroughCustard · 06/02/2006 20:09

I have taken both of mine (umberella & a big 3 wheeler) on numerous flights (inc. budget)without any damage whatsoever.

Ours has survived several trips on Easyjet. Baggage handlers are the same worldwide so I'd suggest either buying a holder to put it in or making sure it is securely folded (with velcro ties if needs be) so they can't get hold of a loose harness to chuck it around ! Seriously ime at Palma you can collect it from the hold as they unload (as you'll get deposited in the middle of the tarmac for a bus trip anyway). It is worse on the return as at Gatwick you have to get it from the conveyor.

Look in your local paper and buy a second hand one for the trip!

Laura032004 · 06/02/2006 21:41

Is it an umbrella fold? If it's like my pliko, a normal buggy bag won't contain it (my maclaren techno style cosatto only just fits in one), but a surf board / body board bag (if you happen to know any surfers!) will do the job! Alternatively thick bin liners should protect it.

Personally, I take a Graco one that I picked up for under £10 at a car boot sale. Do you get the freecycle emails? There are always loads of people offering old buggies. I'd rather have a decent buggy that ds can sleep in comfortably than one of the mega cheap ones (that are v.hard to push IME).

If you think about hiring, consider taking a sling for the journey - ideal while you're trying to grab your bags off the conveyor! I've flown with ds (22m) a few times by myself doing this.

Have a good time

SwimmingUpHillThroughCustard · 07/02/2006 10:02

god, what to do?
my m&p one isnt light but folds pretty easilly and one side clip holds it in place.
i was thinkjing of the £15 mothercare one, but like you say, what if its too uncomfortable for dd?..she's 2 10 months and really its only for nights/dinner time, if she's tired and if we're going for a long walk???what to do!

Blackduck · 07/02/2006 10:20

Cheap/second hand? Borrow a battered one off a friend? We have an ancient Maclaren (done about 5 children in the family and loads of flights abroad..) - its as grotty as hell, but I don't care if it comes out mangled at the other end!

littlemissbossy · 07/02/2006 10:37

SwimmingUHTC if she's tired she'll sleep in anything! I bought a cheap buggy from MC for my DS and never went back to using his expensive one.
1 nice pushchair + baggage handlers = knackered pushchair

SwimmingUpHillThroughCustard · 07/02/2006 10:39

yeah, thats what i was thinking..you just dont know do you!

I'm worried about this too! Problem is dd will be 3 months when we fly ryanair and I only have an old macclaren that's no good for such a young baby (doesn't go at all flat) or a huge pliko pram system thing my friend has lent me which thy won't let me take I thimk. So need a cheap go-flat pushchair....help!

SwimmingUpHillThroughCustard · 08/02/2006 10:26

theres one for £25 on mothercare link on main page and its suitable from 3 months?
the cheaper one is £15, but thats from 6 months.HTH

I wouldn't worry about Majorca, it could get mangled going to any destination. The only thing I'm pretty sure about Majorca is that you won't get it back until you pick it up from the conveyor belt with the rest of the luggage, unless you are flying with a very cheap airline that doesn't have access to a proper entrance into the airport, even so, you will need perfect timing and good negociating skills to get it back immediatly after the flight, as they are not supposed to give it to you until you reach the luggage return area (crazy, I know, specially when the luggage pick up area is sometimes miles away from the place you enter the airport).

I would not spend more money in a cheaper buggy unless your baby is going to use it for quite a long time after the trip. IMO buggies are to be used and discarded after 3 years, not to be kept particularly pretty, besides, you can wash the fabric of most models, so I would think your buggy will survive

SwimmingUpHillThroughCustard · 10/02/2006 11:39

im contemplating not taking one at all and if we need one when we get there, buying one?

OP posts:
Chandra · 11/02/2006 10:15

Oh no, take one with you, you really need one during the holidays and TBH baby things in Spain are not cheap at all (actually, they are normally more expensive than here!)

SwimmingUpHillThroughCustard · 12/02/2006 19:19

well friend is taking hers and her dd is just a bit younger than mine so im thinking ill be blatently cheeky and if we're going out and they arnt, i ask to use it....will ease the cheek by bearing gifts of cheap vino and duty free bought toberlerone

nulnulcat · 12/02/2006 20:53

get a cheap one or lots of hotels let you hire one there have worked in airport enviroment and seen how things get chucked about so would never dream of taking my lovely m and p anywhere near a baggage handler!

longwaytogo · 12/02/2006 21:03

If it does get mangled it should be covered on your household insurance. I'm sure this happened to a friends pushchair and she claimed. Think i would look for a cheap 2nd hand graco one - they lie flat, have a hood to protect from sun, a cosytoes for cold evenings and so what if it gets mangled if you've paid next to nothing for it. Or you could try your local charity shops, we always have pushchairs in ours.

nulnulcat · 12/02/2006 21:04

the chicco london also lies flat got a decent sized hood / sunshade on it and has survived quite a few flights as well

itsdday · 13/02/2006 09:18

where do you live I have a spare new maclaren quest if u want to borrow
