Anyone stayed here? Would you recommend it?

Went with DH about 4 years ago before we had kids. Our room was lovely, massive freestanding bath. IIRC the food wasn't too great but of course that could have all changed. Sorry, going to offend people from Swaffham but it seemed odd having this boutique hotel in a town with nothing going on.

Bugger, just posted my reply to you Alpha on that thread [stupid face emoticon]

What a fab read, but don't worry, I wasn't planning on nicking anything.

Even more embarrassing, that old thread in AIBU is now resurrected and IT'S ALL MY FAULT.

Poor Strattons.

On the plus side - have to say this was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at in the Luxury end of the market. Stunning food (on a par with Michelin star places we have eaten at), gorgeous huge room (stayed in the Red Room) and you'd have to be INSANE to try and take the toiletries home - they are clearly "built in" to the bathrooms, the person who complained in the very old thread was clearly a thief.

Swaffham itself was pretty awful, very clearly affected by the economic downturn, but the proximity to the gorgeous North Norfolk coast means I would really recommend this hotel for a luxury break. It was like a little oasis in the middle of a pretty drab town.

I know - i accidentally resurrected it back in April and it was like I'd started a bf/ff debate Confused. I was terrified of going there.

It's a really, really nice place though and I'd hate for people to think that you'd get chased up for stealing some bit of plastic crap. The toiletries are in glass bottles, built into the f&f of the bathroom. Not £2.50 a pack, more like £20+ and there are little notices asking you not to try and steal them.

Hey there ,

I am thinking about coming to this hotel but I am quite worried about this story about stealing things:

I have read some reviews online but totally not sure what to make of it?

Is it safe to visit?

Sorry to bring this thread up again by the way.

I went here a couple of months ago for my 40th Birthday, stayed in the Red Room. My review is on Trip Advisor too, and I rated Excellent.

I had initially been put off by the stealing thread nonsense. I have to say you would be insane to try and steal the toiletries, they are clearly part of the fixtures and fittings in the bathroom.

It was one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. The Red Room was utterly luxurious and very romantic, it was huge and has it's own private courtyard garden. I understand the other rooms are just as nice but all are individually styled. I like the look of the Opium Room too.

The staff and service were all excellent, logs for our fire we delivered within a minute of us requesting them. Attentive but not intrusive.

The food was out of this world, although some reviews on Trip Advisor really criticise it, I loved every meal I had, it was quite adventurous cooking, but totally delicious. There is a little warning asking you to avoid eating at Peak times of day if you don't want to wait - this suited us. Even when we did have to wait, it was for no longer than you would in any other restaurant cooking to order.

I would recommend the hotel, but be aware, the town of Swaffham is pretty run down. Luckily, it is only a short drive to the gorgeous North Norfolk coast.
