Summer holiday recommendations?

Trying to book a summer holiday for the four of us- DH, DD1 (9 years), DD2 (10 months) and me- but have left it a little late... also DH keeps complaining we've done Italy, Portugal, Mallorca etc. He says he'd rather pay a bit more and go somewhere exotic but with DD2 who's so little we can't really do long-haul flights... Does anyone have any ideas? We'll probably do all-inclusive because it's so easy so if anyone has any recommendations of country and resort that would be great :) thanks x

Or do you think it would be better to leave DD2 with my mother and go somewhere further afield? I would feel sorry for her but she'd have fun with her granny and we'd be able to have more of an active holiday... all depends where we go I guess, thanks for help xx

TBH i think you need to get into the habit of including DD2 now rather than putting it off another year. its always going to be an issue when there is a big age gap between kids so best to get used to it now. what about somewhere like a Mark Warner activity holiday with a creche so you get to spend time with both children together, independently and with your DH. watersports and sailing holidays are good fun. you should still be able to find something.

how about greece, turkey, dubai, canary islands. all within 6 hours flight.

I would take your baby, but go somewhere with a creche so you can do some watersports or whatever with your older child for an hour or so each day

My aunt took her daughter to Morocco when she was 2monthd, and Bali when she was 1 year. I would definitely take her wherever you decide! :)

We usually go to Turkey, it is very child friendly and there is load to see and do. Personally I would go self catering rather than AI. It gives you more space and flexibility when you have children.

I would never leave one child at home, we are a family and we do things together, To me it would be very unfair to leave one family member behind, however small they are.

My friend took her baby and older two children to Club Med and had a lovely time as the baby was able to go to creche to allow her some "me" time and her older kids loved all the activities! They have such good facilities such as pushchairs, special baby food/retuaurant/changing facilities etc. There are ones all over but i have been to the one in Turkey and Tunisia and both were great.

Thanks, Turkey sounds good and DH seems keen! I think we will do AI, self-catering might be more flexible but for me it won't end up being a real holiday! And yes, I'll make sure wherever we go will have things for DD2 as well- I obviously want her to have fun but I don't want DD1 to have to fit around the baby because she already does that a lot... somewhere with a creche would be good or maybe we'll take the au pair- if we've found someone decent by then (fingers crossed)!

Oh I never actually cook anything when we go self catering! I meant you would have more space and wouldn't be confined to a hotel room. We like to put our girls to bed and have a glass of wine on the balcony. You also get a fridge to keep drinks, fruit etc. in. Also you can eat where and when you like rather than being tied to the same restaurant and having to eat at certain times.

What about Neilson? They have some great places in turkey and Greece. Went last year with dd8 and we all loved it. The little ones looked very well looked after too.

I'd say we found DD much more 'portable' when she was under a year old. We went to Morocco when she was 8 months or so, and also to New Zealand (to DPs family) when she was 4.5 months old, so I wouldn't rule out something further. It depends what sort of thing you like on holiday. You could even do East Coast of the USA or Canada. Not too long a flight for your DD1 - not terribly exotic, but you'd get good facilities and all the kid's stuff you need.... Just a thought. Other places we considered when DD was less than a year were South Africa, Thailand, and Egypt. Largely didn't do Thailand and Egypt then because of the heat, but have been to Thailand twice (stopovers to/from Oz/NZ) with her since, and all has been great.
