hi, off to Dublin for a couple of nights this month and wondered how late it was generally acceptable to be out and about with a toddler (generally well behaved) - obviously europe is fine, but is Dublin more like UK (i.e. 8pm cut off really)? Temple bar is clearly out...
thanks

You're right, Dublin is more like the UK (and if you are planning on going for pub grub I think there's actually a law that 6.30 is the latest you can have a child in a pub)

Some locals in the suburbs have beer gardens with outside smoking areas and child's play areas with heaters.

And Temple Bar - avoid like the plague - I'm a Dubliner and I hate it!!! Full of hen and stag nights, pink fluffy Stetsons - yuk!

actually its 9pm, 10pm in summer by law, but many pubs will have their own rules such as 7pm.

MadameMessy · 02/04/2012 14:49

Depends whether you'll be in pubs or restaurants. Most pubs have a no kids after 7 rule, but restaurants are more relaxed, and you can probably get away with 9pm.

thanks - any suggestions for ones that might be good for a bit later on? or good quieter areas to eat and drink but close walking from the city centre?

Well where abouts in the city centre will you be?

DublinDoll · 02/04/2012 14:52

7pm is generally the time that minors have to be off the premises. Where are you staying?

heavydutyjudy · 02/04/2012 14:54

Madame, not sure he would last much longer that 9pm anyway! Although we went to spain last year and it was great because you could eat outside with children til late, and then have a nice long lie in morning...sigh

Some nice restaurants in drumcondra, about 20 mins walk, if even, from town. Cheese pantry and chili banana esp.
Lots and lots in town, even temple bar is fine during the day and early evening. Im always recommending the elephant and castle on fleet st, i love the food.
Great Italian behind grafton st, pizza stop, very reasonable.
The usual take aways and fast food chains every where too :)

thanks everyone...at least we can put him to bed and have a room to ourselves if we can't stay out too late :-)
