What is the most relaxing holiday you've ever had with young children?

Just wondering.......We've been to Bosinver in Cornwall for the past five years, but as fantastic as it is and I heartily recommend it to people with toddlers and preschoolers, the weather has been rubbish just about every year we've been (except the first year in June) so it makes for a very go, go, go week of activity and doing stuff ALL the time. Also my children are at an age (6 & 8) where they would be happy on a beach all day messing with the sand and sea and playing with newly-made friends, but all we could manage last year was 2 beach afternoons as the weather just wasn't beach weather really.

Last year was exhausting, although enjoyable. I felt like I needed a holiday at the end of the week, I barely sat down we were so busy!

So..... I decided that we needed some guaranteed sunshine and a more laidback holiday so we're going to Puerto Pollensa in August via Easyjet and a privately-owned self-catering apartment, in August. I'm sure we'll have a nice time but I just feel lately that my life is so frantic and I do so much for everyone else that I would like a holiday to feel like a holiday for myself so would like to know what other options there are (for next year - nothing like forward planning Grin), without having to pay out ridiculous prices to be fighting for a sunbed or dinner table at a crappy hotel every day.

Any ideas?

We stayed here www.lepavillondestagnan.com/index.php/en/ when DS was 3 I think. It was lovely, lots of other families with young children - mostly Dutch so conversation a little strained. No beaches but a lovely heated pool, babysitting on tap for a low rate and an amazing restaurant in a 20 min walk ( would need car with kids)

We love the Dordogne and have been there twice and booked up again for this year. Lots of things to see and do , hopefully great weather and they seem to love children.

I have been to Bosinver as well with DS and I know what you mean about the weather, fab place but I remember swimming in the rain and spending many an hour in the playbarn because it was so wet outside - mind you the tortoise sanctuary was a once in a lifetime experience !

in a yurt about 1 hour away from where we live. Fabulous. DD (only had DD at the time, 'the time' being 3 or 4 times to the same place) ran with the farmdogs and we played in the stream and the woods, and read books and DH and I tended to the fire, drank wine, ate al fresco, woke in a double bed with woodburner warming our toes. we snuggled in bed drinking tea while DD played with her toys, and had a couple of day trips (mostly to local hippy food store where we spent too much on stuff we did not need), DD fed lambs, played with owners son.

We loved it so much, now we can bear going away again with DD and DS aged 2 (who does not sleep) we are going back in May. And in September.

I cannot contemplate the prospect of long haul or any kind of plane journey with two young children.
