We need to go to Manchester for a couple of days and need something to do with ds (10) and dd (2) for a day or so. I've never been there so any suggestions please?

Top floor of the City Art Gallery is fantastic.

Museum of Science and Industry keeps mine entertained for hours and hours every time we go.

We were disappointed by the actual gallery at the Lowry, but the boys enjoyed walking round the Quays and making sketches; and we went to a great craft workshop there too. (Had to book in advance.)

a go on the big wheel in the triangle is good.
as suggested the science museum is fab.
a trip to daisy and tom for a play with the toys, lunch in their nice child friendly cafe and a play on the soft play area.
will keep thinking. are you going to be staying in the city centre? will you have a car?

You could take them swimming at the commonwealth pool that is in central manchester.

My boys are always thrilled by a ride on a tram! But that probably doesn't apply for your children's ages.

thanks for quick ideas. Museum looks very good. What is daisy and Tom's? We will have a car.

The manchester museun is on oxford road and is a natural history museum with lots of stuffed animals etc if your kids will like that.

alexsmum · 03/02/2006 20:37

daisy and toms is a fab shop that has 3 floors of toys, designer clothes etc. but also has soft play area and nice cafe.
if you have a car, a drive out will take you to some nice country, and some national trust places-lyme park(where pride and prejudice was filmed) has a fab adventure playground but take wellies. dunham massey-has a farm. tatton park, has a good playground AND a farm!
don't know if this is kind of thing you are looking for?

Heaton Park (a few miles North of Central Manchester) has a nice free farm area and hall to visit (playground isn't particularly great though).
