Sensatori Crete - any advice or recommendations?

Will it be hot in May?

If we opt for full board - how much more will we need to take for drinks in between?

Can we drink water bought from the shop at the hotel pool?

Can jeans (dark denim skinny) count as long trousers?

What is the tipping etiquette?

Anything else?

Many thanks in advance.

Had to laugh at the guy who had taken his wife for their anniversary. "Full of drunk parents and small children"

That'll be us then. Grin

Why oh why did he book this hotel.

I recommend a trip to the ruined palace at Knossos, parts have been rebuilt so that you get a sense of what it was like. You can get childrens books in english telling the legend of the minotaur and the labyrinth which might appeal to your DC.

I think that dress codes are usually shorts/skirts/trousers and tops, or dresses to be worn for meals indoors, but a beach kaftan or similar is OK while eating a snack lunch at a pool bar, and men can pull on a top. (Basically not just sitting in your swimwear.)

3/4 length trousers are OK for women if they are smart linen or similar, but I think men must wear long trousers for dinner in smarter restaurants as it says in the brochure. This is standard in 5* places anyway. My DH has a thing about men who go out for dinner dressed as if they've just come straight from the beach, while the women have nice outfits on, bling, hair and makeup done etc.

Sailorsgal - children go on holiday shocker. That guy needs to go to an adults only resort. He clearly did not look at the brochure/internet to see where he was going.

girlywhirly Great advice, thank you. I have a children's minotaur book ready on my kindle.

Your advice regarding the dress code is what we would do anyway. I have ordered a couple of dresses to go over swimsuits. I like getting dressed up but don't want to do it 14 nights - I don't have the luggage allowance. Wink

I usually take 7 tops for evening, and wear them twice with different bottoms and accessories for a fortnights hol. Then a few ordinary tops and shorts for daytimes/days out. If there are laundry facilities, you can get away with taking less clothes altogether. I take enough underwear for a week and wash them by hand with travel wash. With swimwear, towels, 3 prs sandals, 4 books and toiletries my full case came to 19kgs last holiday!

When DS was tiny I used to wash all his stuff anyway.

Eggrules · 24/04/2012 16:41

I have my Kindle so books sorted. Wink

I may just take DS a towel - pool towels can be changed daily. Laundry facilities aren't mentioned. We take two cases between three of us - DS take up the most room. I need to try things on and be organised about what I'm taking.

What is the world coming too! Parents sit at bar whilst children run riot! Grin

sailorsgal · 26/04/2012 17:13

You could always hang your towels on the balcony. Grin

I know - kids have fun on holiday shocker. Lots of tuts for me then, DS should be in school.

I feel a bit Confused when people liken the entertainment to Butlins as if it's a bad thing. Isn't the children's entertainment supposed to be exactly like that - organised fun? DH and I had very different holidays pre DS; not sure we ever sought out somewhere with 'a turn'. I hope he loves Playhouse and kid's disco.

We have paid more for a FC Holiday Village. As long as it is nicer than that, I will be Grin.

OhCobblers · 29/04/2012 17:36

Does anyone know what the childcare situation is? How much for the kids to be there for a few hours every day??

TIA

I haven't been yet and am getting my information from TripAdvisor and Thomson's website.

Thomson/First Choice offer free morning and afternoon sessions. In addition, at Sensatori, I think you can pay for sleepovers and there is stay and play. There is kids entertainment from 7 to 9ish. One review has noted that there children aged 3 to 12 have been mixed together. There are lots of positive reviews for kids club.

There is a hotel run kids club during peak season.

TA reviews still veer from the sublime to the ridiculous.

Review 822 are complaining about about cooking raw meat on a stone grill in the Stone Grill Restaurant. Confused

I read on a TA review that the pools were cold in may Sad I hope not.

justanothertenminutes · 02/05/2012 18:21

Hi, I was at the Sensatori May last year and confirm the pools were mighty chilly Sad sorry about that, fab hotel though! Grin
