Haven't been to this site but stayed in the Dordogne last year over August for 2 weeks with 4 kids - 4 - 7 in ages. Had a fab time with loads to do. Days on the river, swimming / visits to caves / historic sites of interest / castles / market days / gardens / small villages and some of the larger towns - all with enough to interest the kids - even a dinosaur park with a low wire course that the kids do on their own - great. Rented a gite and were more to the east than where you are looking at but enjoyed the area.

Live in Bordeaux but never been to this area - sorry.

Blandmum · 17/02/2006 12:51

looks fab. Sadly have never visited this site.

Why not have a look on www.ukcampsite.co,uk. they have an extensive list of reviewed sites. If you join you can post and see if nayone has been to this site. They are very friendly and helpful over there.

Rhubarb · 17/02/2006 12:52

I'm not. I'm nasty and horrible.

Blandmum · 17/02/2006 12:54

We all know that

On UKcampsite, sheesh, some people.....

Actualy I do love France and the French. Have had some great holidays in the vendee and am going back this summer.

Wine, bread and cheese. The kids running round the park, the sun shining, a good book to read. Sigh

We go to the Dordogne every year at least once but this is further North than we usually go. We nearly bought a property just outside Brantome which is mentioned as being close to the chateau you are looking at.

I would say that this is less touristy than the Sarlat area we go to bit which isn't a bad thing. There looks like there's still lots to do and you aren't suffocated by all the Brits!

I'd go for it - looks lovely and let us know what it's like coz we're looking for an alternative for the Summer.

It's pissing it down today!

Blandmum · 17/02/2006 13:03

and amazingly it is sunny in th East Midlands.

But think of the lovely wine that the water will help to make!

All that grows round us are spuds

AuntyQuated · 17/02/2006 14:02

having looked at other places i think we are going to go for this one as it is one of the few with vacancies for our weeks.

would have preferred a bigger van, but those that hesitate.

what is concerning me is the journey!!! we normally travel Dover-Calais which makes it a long car journey but the other ferries are so much more expensive.

those who have been...how do you travel? how long does it take? i think we'd be best with 2 over-night stops but dh thinks we'd mange with one!

You'll manage with one. We went further south than this with dd when she was 14 months and did it with an overnight stop.

AuntyQuated · 17/02/2006 21:47

hwo long will it take from calais

we have a long journey to dover too.

When we drove to the Dordogne last year, we did it into two stages. Live in the Lake District so it was a big drive just to Dover, so left early on the Friday morning and made it to Disneyland Paris early evening. Spent all day at Disneyland and travelled down to the Dordogne that Saturday night - about 4 hours with no traffic. Kids watched DVD's and slept so there was limited stops but we were tired! On way back drove during the day and made use of the play areas and caught ferry late evening and drove through the night. Easier in that the kids slept so less stops but it took it out of us! This year, staying in Kent overnight, early morning ferry, a couple of hours at friends on way down, aim to arrive early evening........ We prefer it as a one stop trip!
