New York - Hotel or Apartment?

3 adults and 2 teens so the whole "hotel room" thing is working out awkward and expensive.

I've found a few 3/4 bedroomed apartments in Manhattan which sound reasonable on Housetrip.com

Can anyone recommend or offer any insight?

Be careful re apartments; rules on letting out apartments in NYC are very strict and there are an awful lot of scams out there.

Hotels that do suite style rooms may be of more benefit to you; chains like Embassy Suites offer these.

second what Attlia says - there is a law banning short term rentals (less than 30 days) in NYC.

Book with caution, there is also the possibility of eviction during your stay. If the neighbors are fed up with a resident who has tourists coming in and out on a weekly basis, and if they don't want strangers to have copies of keys to the building, they will report you.

DorcasS the website you mention knows of the NYC law, but from what I have read in the last 20 mins on the web, take no responsibility when things go wrong. Your contract is between you and the person offering the rental, which could be a scam anyway. The site you mention is just a website for you to book on, that's it basically.

They state "Our website is a platform connecting property owners and prospective guests".

If it looks too good to be true, it usually is. Be careful.

Try www.affinia.com for apart/hotels.

Hotels are bloody pricey in NYC. have you tried NYU accommodation? They rent out rooms and apartments. It is pretty basic, but clean and fairly comfortable.

I second the suggestion to stay in a suite or apartment hotel. Manhattan prices are crazy though and as a former NYer (lived there for six years), I'd recommend looking at Brooklyn and NJ if you want to find somewhere more reasonably priced. Just find somewhere near a subway or PATH train stop and you'll be in Manhattan in no more than about 20 mins.

When we visit we tend to stay in Jersey City as my ILs live in NJ. Last time we visited we stayed here: www.ichotelsgroup.com/candlewood/hotels/us/en/jersey-city/ewrjc/hoteldetail?cm_mmc=mdpr--googlemaps--cw-_-ewrjc and it was fine. There are several suite hotel chains and many chain hotels in Jersey City near the PATH train stations. Check out Marriott, Doubletree, Clarion, Embassy Suites, etc and see what you come up with. The Exchange Place area of JC has quite a few and it has restaurants and bars for visitors too.
