Hi

(I am new to Mumsnet) stumbled upon it searching for advice on booking a holiday so please bear with me :)
I have 2 children - 4yo and 3yo and have been looking to book to stay at La Ranolien with Eurocamp in August, read the reviews and happy until I see an advertisement for Yelloh Village for the same place same dates but loads cheaper over £200 cheaper! Has anyone stayed with either companies? wondereing what the difference is (apart from the price)
Also would welcome reviews on La Ranolien.

Thanks :)

I don't know if this helps or not, but we went with Keycamp to a park in the Jura area of France. It turns out that these companies like Keycamp and Eurocamp, have certain tents and mobile homes in the park, which is privately owned. So....people can take their own tents and caravans and you can book with either company but be in a different part of the site. Not sure if Yelloh has the same set up. Its not really a Eurocamp site.

We have stayed with Eurocamp, Canvas et al for many years. We have also booked direct. Yelloh is simply a smaller company. The accomodation will be pretty similar with the main difference being that the Yelloh accomodation will be in French holiday style so dont necessarily expect to find an oven or a kettle though you will normally find a microwave.

Yelloh kids clubs will tend to be more international than Eurocamp kids clubs.

Dont just look at headline prices look at the whole package. How do they compare if you add in the channel crossing? We always use the tunnel and find that Eurocamp offers a good deal for the overall package because we want to travel Flexi plus.

Eurocamp has tents and caravans on other people's sites whereas Yelloh actually own/run the site. You can book with Eurocamp to stay on a yelloh site or you can book direct with Yelloh. I've never booked with Yelloh, but I have booked with Eurocamp and booked direct with campsites. Booking direct is usually cheaper but we had to book travel separately whereas you can book travel through Eurocamp. When we booked direct, the children couldn't go to kids clubs, which they could with Eurocamp. There's advantages and disadvantages of both.

thanks, took me ages to find this post hence the delay on a reply! I will find my way round soon! haha.
I think I am going to book with Eurocamp the first time see how we go, especially as it mentions the kids clubs (if we even decide to use them as ds would miss out as the 3yo club finishes before the 4yo club which doesnt seem fair)
I have changed my mind to camping rather than the chalets, thinking the kids would love the experience, am I mad??
Hubby has told me to go ahead and book wherever, doing whatever! great hope he doesnt whinge if there are any hiccups Confused.

Dont forget that going in a tent means you dont have your own loo/shower/water supply for washing up. Means you have to walk over to the shower block a lot especially with small children. If funds stretch personally I would always stay in a mobilehome or chalet rather than a tent. You get plenty of outdoorsyness with these for my taste.

Each to his own though!

We've booked with yelloh direct before, their pitches tend to be better than the eurocamp ones - more foliage, closer to facilities, bigger, as well as cheaper. Downsides - if you don't want to clean the unit yourself at the end there's a hefty cleaning charge (not all sites), prices don't include ferry crossing. Hth

Probably a bit too late but we also book direct with Yelloh these days (upgraded to one of their mobiles from a Canvas Hols tent!). It is much cheaper than a Canvas or Eurocamp mobile, the only downside being no oven or kettle (I bring one with me, kettle that is not oven!). We clean it ourselves at the end, and have never had a problem with the checkout. I do always make sure that I am seen wiping the floor when the checkout lady arrives though!

we usually use venue holidays - and despite being regular campers, would no way camp in the heat
