Tenby and Pembrokeshire are beautiful. Tenby itself gets really busy in the summer though. Don't know about caravan park but aren't they all pretty similar.

Top tip - Folly Farm, the kids will love it.

PS any more questions give me a shout, i live not too far away from Tenby so I'm familiar with the area.

I despise Tenby. Especially in the summer/bank holiday. Its full of chavs, think the entire cast of my big fat gypsy wedding in one place.
Chip shops, tea shops. Bleurgh, dh goes a lot for the windsurfing, i will never ever go again!

Im sure its nice in the winter/spring because they do have some nice shops.

you might be right mosschops, tend to go there off season. North Pembrokeshire is beautiful and less busy. Newquay, Newport, St Davids, Solva, Newgale all on the coast but less to do than in Tenby.

Saundersfoot and Amroth are lovely seaside villages very close to Tenby but out of the hustle and bustle.

Agree st davids, solva and newgale are lovely Smile

We went to Tenby last May bank holiday week and loved it. We avoid chavvy resorts and didn't find it particularly chavvy then. I got talking to an elderly man who was local and he told me that Tenby had cleaned up its act recently by banning hen and stag parties. We saw no evidence of chavviness when we were there. Tenby is also very pretty, especially the view from the top of the cliff on the north beach.

We don't like caravan parks and stayed in an apartment right on the north beach. Location wise it was perfect. Bear in mind that parking in the town is very limited, so if you are staying some way out it might be better to use public transport to get into town.

tenby nice along with rest of pembrokeshire - think cornwall with less people. we didn't find it chavy and always managed to get a parking space. yes its busier than rest of area, but not falling off the pavements busy. we preferred eating there to the pretentious restaurant we visited in st davids, so unless you are really snooty i think it would be fine.

Tenby and the surrounding area are beautiful. Amazing beaches and lots of reasonably priced castles to visit.

We stayed just outside and visited Tenby one afternoon and evening. I liked it a lot and didn't find it at all chavvy! We also went to Caldey Island for the day from Tenby which was just a lovely day, wish we had taken swimming costumes to swim on its lovely beach. Manorbier is also nice, and we loved all of Pembrokeshire.

driedapricots · 14/03/2012 21:39

thanks all..going to book up tomorrow i think. Celtic Haven is a resort of holiday cottages with spa, golf etc on site..i am definitely not a caravan holiday type of person i'm afraid!!

Tenby is lovely - not chavvy at all. There's loads to do there and in the area: Folly Farm (we went there in the rain and was great!);Dinosaur Park at Tenby; Manorbier Castle; Pembroke Castle; Oakwood Theme Park for older children; boat trips; Caldy Island; lots of nice beaches and the coastal path for walking. Would thoroughly recommend it!
