We may be going to Prague in July - DD will be 1yo - if anyone knows of any good hotels and suggestions on things to do, we'd be really grateful. It will probably sway my decision on whether to go (no pressure!)

Thanks!

I have been three times and loved it so much that I got married there. The weather should be fab about then. Did you want to e mail me and I can let you have some link of places to stay etc?

Racers · 27/01/2006 15:47

Yes, please do. I am really that you might go!

We went for DD's first birthday and stayed at Hotel U Zlate Studney

Loved it. The room was huge. In fact, it was 2/3 rooms. Only bad thing was there was no room service. But, I would definietly recommend the place because you can close the baby in one room while you stay up in the other.

Bring a pram with BIG wheels to navigate the cobble stone streets.

We stayed in an apartment that I found over the internet through a Czech travel agent. I'd recommend going on a carriage ride around the centre, its fun, interesting and is inexpensive compared to other cities. The castle is well worth a look too - I'd recommend catching the road train up, and walking down (so you can pop in all the shops.

This is the one we used, they prebooked a cab for us too, although the shuttlebus is a lot cheaper:

You of course run the risk they're not ABTA, but we never had any problems.

We stayed in Wenceslas Square, but from what I understand from a recent TV programme, its got a little seedy there now, with strip clubs (designed to cater for the stag nights!).

The city centre CAN be expensive to stay, but if you can find a small hotel you like or get an appt like us (we got a 3 bed appt for £80 per night in 2003). Staying round the Old Town Square means you're pretty central.

Agree with Uwila re the wheels. Everyone has the pram equivalent of a 4x4

Thanks! Funny you should mention stag nights - this is why DH is going (or might be, he hasn't decided). I was surprised when he said he wanted us to come but it turns out the wives/gfs etc are going and the hen do is there too. I wouldn't be involved in that, but at least I wouldn't be the only girlie going! DH said he'd go out on the stag do night and the rest of the time we'd do our own thing.
Will look up these links and sort out CAT payment to contact you meggmoo later tonight.

Czech beer is EXCELLENT!

We found that for a stay greater than 4 days it was cheaper to rent an appartment - Prague hotels are surpising expensive given that everything else is relatively cheap.

5 days is Prague is about the max I would go for - I think you would get bored if you went for a whole week.
