Oh yes you can!

PeskyPiskie · 24/02/2012 11:03

Yes you can but it's not between platforms 9 and 10 (which are in a modern extention). I think its between platforms 8 and 9, but happy to be corrected. If your DC can read numbers then it might be worth thinking up an excuse for why its in the wrong place. It is something that JK Rowling has often said she regrets not researching properly.

starlingsintheslipstream · 24/02/2012 11:22

Oooh I want to go too Grin! Is it easy to get to in these days of heightened security - can you just wander in or do you need a platform ticket - do they even have platform tickets now Hmm?

GrungeBlobPrimpants · 24/02/2012 11:24

Yes, but Kings X is one mass of renovation work and scaffolding at the moment and I have a feeling they had to Disapparate the 9 3/4 platform temporarily.

It's not where you think it might be, because the film site, real platforms and photo-shoot tourist site are all different - see here. The films used St Pancras for the exterior shots 'cos it looks prettier

PeskyPiskie · 24/02/2012 11:25

I think it is still easy to get to. I've not visited it myself, I just use Kings Cross to get in and out of Cambridge. This link gives some inforamtion.

PeskyPiskie - SNAP!!! Grin

Yu can still see it but it's not in it's original location. I often use platforms 9, 10 and 11 which are in a seperate part the the main station. The guards at those platforms seem exasperated trying to explain to tourists that's it's not between 9 and 10!

futurity · 24/02/2012 11:28

I saw it recently as I was waiting on a train on platform 10 (I think?). I was waiting on the train and glanced across to a passage connecting the platform to another one and saw lots of tourists taking a photo of the wall! I then saw the sign so leapt off the train and took a photo and then got on again! Kids were impressed when I showed them my blurry photo!

Great minds think alike obviously Grin Grunge. BTW love the name, my DS is addicted to SpongeBob.

Kings Cross is a mess at the moment. I'm sure I've seen 9 and 3/4 put in a different place again but can't remember where.

When you watch the film it's around platform 4 or similar - platforms 9, 10 and 11 are in a separate part of the station. They used to have a 9 3/4 sign somewhere around there but it got moved. St Pancras is a much nicer external shot as Kings Cross is a concrete box basically Grin.

Some platforms have ticket barriers, some don't. There is also a platform 0 which I quite like Grin.

Just looked at this and supposedly there will be a shiny new station in March but am slightly dubious. The renovations have been going on for years though (and I only go there every few months so it may have changed. Was there in December and still a mess)

This says that the sign is on an external wall in Euston Road at the moment.

Lol - Bob rules here even though my dc's are (suitably, grungy) teens now Grin

We may have a trip to York coming up soon and i noticed that the Nat Railway Museum has the steam train from the films for steam weekends. They had a Wizard Week with it in full steam at half term!

Essene · 24/02/2012 11:35

I went with my kids over Christmas. As everyone has said, Kings Cross is a mess at the moment and the trolley sticking in to the wall was actually out on the pavement outside the station. That said, if you looked carefully at the occasional plans dotted round the station, it was still accurately marked.

QED · 24/02/2012 11:45

Steam train was indeed in York at Half term (although they gave it a silly name - wasn't called the Hogwarts Express Hmm). Railway museum is always a good place to go anyway Smile
